[편집자주]참신한 아이디어로 탄생한 중소기업 우수상품에 주어지는 서울특별시 산하단체인 SBA 서울유통센터의 '서울어워드 우수상품'이 주목받고 있다. '서울어워드' 선정상품은 대한민국의 수도 '서울'이 인정한 우수상품이라는 인식이 확산하면서 국내외 유통 바이어는 물론 소비자들에게 높은 신뢰를 얻게 하고 있기 때문이다.

특히 '중소기업 제품'이라는 꼬리표 때문에 겪게 되는 상품의 공신력 문제를 '서울어워드 우수상품'이 해결해 주면서 성장 가능성이 높은 중소기업들이 도중에 실패하지 않고 창업성공의 결실을 맺게 하고 있다는 평가를 받고 있다.

이에 디지털 경제신문 '비즈니스리포트'는 서울산업진흥원(SBA) 서울유통센터의 '서울어워드' 우수상품을 탄생시킨 우수기업을 선정, 이 기업들의 창업성공스토리를 기획특집기사로 연재한다.

골프에 IT기술을 접목해 전세계 골퍼들의 주목을 받고 있는 한국의 강소기업이 있다. 김영훈 대표가 '최고의 기술로 골프의 과학화를 디자인한다'라는 일념 아래 지난 2004년 창업해 현재는 전세계 100만명의 회원을 보유하고 있는 골프 스마트 솔루션 개발 및 공급 전문기업 (주)파이네트웍스다.

#스마트한 골프세상을 만들다
파이네트웍스는 지난 2004년 창업과 함께 골프핸디캡 및 기록분석 서비스 제공을 주력 상품으로 시작한 골프전문 IT회사다. 이후 2009 골프거리측정기 어플리케이션 런칭, 2011년 보이스캐디 어플리케이션 런칭, 2013년부터는 삼성 갤럭시 기어S~S3 전용 골프나비를 런칭하는 등 스포츠 경기인 골프에 IT 기술을 접목해 신개념의 골프문화를 창조해내며 성장의 성장을 거듭하고 있다. 특히 지난 2017년에는 자체개발 센서 디바이스와 시뮬레이션 어플리케이션을 연동시키는 골프스윙센서 '파이골프' 킥스타터 펀딩에 성공하고, 국내에서 정식 서비스에 돌입하며 전세계 골프업계로부터 주목을 받은 바 있다.

#스윙분석부터 게임까지 '파이골프', 전 세계 6만여개 골프맵 기반 네이게이션 '골프나비'
파이네트웍스의 대표 상품으로는 우선  동작인식기술 기반의 스포츠 스윙센서 분석 및 스마트폰 게임 시뮬레이터 기기인 '파이골프(PHI GOLF)'를 들 수 있다. "저 자신이 골프에 미쳤기 때문에 파이골프를 개발할 수 있었다"며 "아이디어에서 출발해 프로토타입을 만들고 다시 정확도를 끌어올리기 위해 지난 5~6년간 잠을 자면서도 센서 꿈을 꿨다."라고 회상할만큼 김 대표가 지난 6년 동안의 모든 열정을 쏟아부은 제품이다. 이 제품은 신개념 웨어러블 골프 시뮬레이터로 그립 끝부분에 간단히 디바이스를 장착하는 것만으로 어플리케이션을 통해 사용자의 스윙을 정확하게 분석해 풀 스윙에서 퍼팅까지 3D그래픽으로 보여준다. 스윙의 강도, 페이스각, 헤드스피드, 궤도 등을 분석해 비거리를 추산하며 분석 정확도가 95% 이상이다.

파이골프는 중력을 이용해 움직임을 측정하는 센서인 ‘자이로 센서’를 통해 골프 스윙 및 템포 등을 분석할 수 있어 시공간의 제약 없이 골프 연습을 할 수 있다. 타사 제품은 분석 위주의 제품인 데 반해 '파이골프'는 '분석과 게임'이 동시에 가능하므로 실내에서 '스크린골프'를 즐길 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 특히 단독으로, 또는 친구, 가족 및 동료와 함께 즐길 수 있는 제품으로 네트워크에 연결되어 있으면 전 세계의 골퍼와 게임을 할 수 있다. 스마트 폰(안드로이드, 아이폰)을 포함한 각종 테블릿 PC, 아이패드, TV까지 여러 장치에서 재생할 수 있어. 언제 어디서나 활용할 수 있는 점이 특징이다.

전 세계 6만여 개 골프맵 데이터 보유 기반으로 스마트 워치 또는 밴드에 임베디드 되는 골프 네비게이션 '골프나비'도 빼놓을 수 없는 파이네트웍스의 주력 제품이다. 국내를 포함한 북미 동남아 유럽 등 세계 주요 골프장 3만 5000개의 코스를 분석해 비거리 측정 앱을 개발했다. 일일이 골프장 사이트에 전화해 조사하고 또는 방문해 만든 이 제품은 출시 당시 그 정확성으로 골퍼들에게 찬사를 받았다. 현재 이 내비게이션은 삼성전자 스마트워치 '기어'에 번들로 들어가 있다.

#자타공인 인정받은 제품력과 시장성...세계 무대에서 최고가 될 때까지
파이네트웍스가 개발한 골프네비게이션 골프나비는 삼성이 주력 상품으로 선보이고 있는 스마트워치 기어에 번들 어플리케이션으로 선택될 만큼 기술력을 인정받고 있다. 파이네트웍스는 지난 2013년부터 삼성 스마트워치 기어S2·S3에 거리 안내 애플리케이션 ‘골프나비’를 서비스하고 있다.

파이네트웍스는 골프나비를 개발한 기술력과 노하우를 바탕으로 파이골프를 개발에 성공했다. 킥스타터·인디고고·마쿠아케 등의 크라우드펀딩에 참여해 높은 성공률로 시장성을 확인받기도 했다. ‘2017년 월드 정보기술(IT)쇼’ ‘2018년 라스베이거스 국제전자제품박람회(CES)’ ‘2018년 모바일 월드 콩그레스 상하이(MWCS)’ 등의 전시회에 참가해 해외 바이어와 관람객들에게 좋은 반응을 얻기도 했다. 그 외에도 2017년 SBA 기술상용화 지원사업(크라우드 펀딩형) 지원사업 선정, 2017하이서울어워드 수상 (아이디어 제품), 2018년 하이서울어워드 수상 (히트 브랜드 제품), 2018년 사물인터넷 제품상용화 지원사업사물인터넷(IoT) 분야에도 선정되는 쾌거를 이루기도 했다.

김영훈 대표는 "파이골프의 정확한 분석으로 시공간에 제약받지 않고 골프 실력을 키울 수 있을 것"이라며 "개발하는 데 7년이 걸렸고 미국, 유럽 등지의 글로벌 콘텐츠 기업과도 협업할 계획"이라고 말했다. 이어 "가족들이 모였을 때 스마트폰만 보는 것보다 함께 골프 게임을 즐길 수 있도록 하겠다"고 말했다. 이어 "파이네트웍스는 세계 무대에서 진정한 최고가 되는 그날까지 끊임없이 도전해 나갈 것이며 늘 '골퍼와 함께 하는 제품과 기업으로 거듭나도록 항상 노력을 다할 것이다"라고 덧붙였다.

PhiNetworks is an IT company that started providing golf handi-caps and record analysis services with its establishment in 2004. Since then, the company has continued to grow by combining IT technology into the sports event, such as launching applications for the 2009 Golf Distance Measuring Device, launching the Voice Caddy application in 2011, and launching golf butterflies exclusively for the Samsung Galaxy Gear S-S3 since 2013. In 2017, the company succeeded in funding golf swing sensor "PiGolf" Kickstarter, which links self-developed sensor devices with simulation applications, and received attention from golf industry around the world as it started its official service in Korea.

First of all, PHI GOLF, which is a device for analyzing sports swing sensors based on motion recognition technology, and simulator of smartphone games, can be used as representative products of PI Networks. "Because I'm crazy about golf, I was able to develop a Pygolf," Kim recalled. "I've been sleeping for the past five or six years to make prototypes and to improve accuracy again, but I've dreamed of sensors," Kim said. "It's a product that's been pouring all my energy into the past six years. The product is a new concept wearable golf simulator that analyzes users' swings accurately through applications just by simply attaching devices at the end of the grip and shows them in 3D graphics from full swing to putting. By analyzing the strength of swing, face angle, head speed and trajectory, the distance is estimated and the accuracy of analysis is over 95%.

Pygolf can analyze golf swings and tempo through "Giro Sensor," a sensor that measures movement using gravity, so that it can practice golf without time-and-time constraints. While third-party products are analysis-oriented, "Pie Golf" can be "analyzed and played" at the same time, so people can enjoy "screen golf" indoors. In particular, if you are connected to a network with products that you can enjoy alone or with friends, family and colleagues, you can play games with golfers from around the world. You can play tablet PCs, iPads, and even TVs on multiple devices, including smart phones (Android, iPhone). Its features are that it can be used anytime, anywhere.

Based on having 60,000 golf map data around the world, the golf navigation "Golf Butterfly," which is embedded in smart watches or bands, is also a major product of FINANKS. It analyzed 35,000 courses at major golf courses in the world, including in South Korea, North America, Southeast Asia and Europe, and developed a distance measuring app. Made by calling the golf course site to investigate or visit, the product was praised by golfers for its accuracy at the time of its launch. Currently, the navigation is bundled into Samsung Electronics' smartwatch "Gear."

The golf navigation golf butterfly developed by PhiNetworks is recognized for its technical skills as it is chosen as a bundled application for the Smart Watch Gear, which is being introduced by Samsung as its main product. PhiNetworks has been providing street guidance application called 'Golf Butterfly' to Samsung Smart Watch Gear S2 and S3.

Based on its technical skills and know-how that developed golf butterflies, PIGOLF has succeeded in developing it.
