인공지능의 자연어처리 평가지표로 쓰이는 SQuAD(The Stanford Question Answering Dataset) 순위 중 세계 10위권 기업/기관은 모두 미국과 중국이 차지하고 있다.

[Analysis] China seeks to win the world with artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

As China has recently expanded its investment in artificial intelligence and policy support, related markets are rapidly growing.

According to the Korea International Trade Association's Institute for International Trade yesterday, China's artificial intelligence industry market increased 75 percent on-year to 415.5 billion yuan last year, and is expected to expand to 100 billion yuan by 2020.

In particular, the number of investments and businesses in related industries has also increased, making the country one of the world's leading economies along with the U.S.

As of June last year, 1,011 Chinese companies were among the world's artificial intelligence-related companies, the largest after the U.S. with 2,028 units. China's investment and loans in the AI sector (as of the end of 2017) are also worth $27.7 billion, accounting for 70.1 percent of the world's total ($39.5 billion). The number of investments and loans worldwide stood at 1,208, with China recording 369 of them, with numbers accounting for 30.5 percent of the total. From 2013 to the first quarter of 2018, China is leading the U.S. in terms of investments and loans that are related to artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence-related patent applications and papers also rank No. 1 in the world, with related research results accumulating. As of the end of October 2018, China's cumulative number of AI-related patents reached 76,876 as of the end of October 2018, beating the U.S. (67,276). Baidu (Baidu/Total 2,092 cases) currently has the largest number of AI-related patent applications in China, followed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (1,933), Microsoft (1,649), Tungshun (1,074), and Samsung (1,040).

As of the end of 2017, the number of AI-related papers in China accounted for 27.7 percent of the total number of AI-related papers published worldwide, and the number of the top 1 percent papers on AI-related subjects (HCP) also showed the highest performance and is actively conducting research.

Thanks to such large-scale investments, support, and research, China's AI level is currently considered to be the world's leading level along with the U.S. The U.S. and China account for all of the world's top 10 companies/organizations in the SQuAD (The Stanford Question Anonymous Dataset), which is used as a natural language processing indicator for artificial intelligence. In particular, China's Harbin University of Technology-iFLYTEK combined laboratory surpassed the human level and ranked first overall. In addition, PINGAN GammaLab (7th) and Shanghai Transportation University (8th) were among the major rankings, while Korean companies and institutions were also on the list.
