롯데액셀러레이터는 지난 23일 인슈어테크(InsurTech) 기업 ‘보맵’에 20억 투자를 완료했다. 이번 투자는 롯데액셀러레이터, KB인베스트먼트, DS자산운용, PIA자산운용, KB증권 및 SJ파트너스, 아이디어브릿지파트너스 등 총 7개사가 동시에 진행한 것으로 총 100억원 규모다.
롯데는 금융에서도 가장 보수적이라고 불리는 보험시장을 빠르게 혁신하며 시장을 선점하고 있는 보맵의 기술력과 혁신성을 높이 평가해 이번 투자를 결정했으며, 향후 롯데그룹의 다양한 비즈니스와 협업할 수 있는 가능성을 타진해나갈 계획이다.
2017년 2월 처음 출시된 보맵은 국내 1위 모바일 보험 통합솔루션이다. 고객들은 어플리케이션을 통해 현재 보유하고 있는 보험정보를 한 곳에서 관리하고, 보험상품 비교분석은 물론 맞춤형 보험을 추천 받을 수 있다. 보험설계사의 프로필 및 이력정보도 확인할 수 있어 고객이 직접 설계사를 선택할 수도 있다.
보맵은 별도의 마케팅 없이 고객들의 입소문 만으로 출시 2년 만에 누적 다운로드 150만, 회원수 100만명을 기록하고 있다. 2017년에는 디지털혁신대상 중소벤처기업부 장관상, 모바일어워드코리아 보험관리 부분 대상을 수상하며 서비스의 우수성을 인정받은 바 있다.
이번 투자를 바탕으로 보맵은 다양한 보험상품 출시, 데이터 분석을 통한 맞춤 보험추천 알고리즘 고도화, 보험금 청구 자동화 등 보험시장 선진화를 위해 다양한 시도를 이어나갈 계획이다. 보맵이 받은 누적투자금액은 130억원을 넘어섰다.
보맵은 롯데액셀러레이터가 운영하는 스타트업 종합지원 프로그램인 ‘엘캠프(L-Camp)’ 1기 출신으로, 2016년 ‘보험지갑앱’이라는 아이디어 단계에서 선발됐다. 롯데액셀러레이터는 보맵에 2000만원의 초기투자금, 사무공간, 멘토링 등을 지원했으며 특히 체계적인 서비스 기획과 비즈니스 모델 정교화를 위해 집중 컨설팅을 진행했다.
이진성 롯데액셀러레이터 대표는 “미국, 일본 등 해외 보험시장은 이미 인슈어테크를 통해 빠르게 변화하고 있다”며 “국내 대표 인슈어테크 기업인 보맵이 탄탄한 기술력과 사업추진력을 바탕으로 한국을 넘어 글로벌 시장으로 진출해 성장하길 기대한다”고 말했다.
류준우 보맵 대표는 “향후 미세먼지, 골프 등의 스포츠, 휴대폰, 비행기 연착 등 무엇보다 일상과 밀접한 다양한 보험상품을 개발해나갈 계획”이라며 “‘어렵고 복잡하다’는 보험에 대한 소비자들의 인식을 바꿔나가기 위해 서비스 간편화에 주력하고 건강, 의료 데이터를 활용해 맞춤보험을 제공하는 등 다양한 시도를 이어가겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 롯데액셀러레이터는 지난 2016년부터 엘캠프를 운영해왔으며 현재 5기 11개사 및 ‘엘캠프 부산’ 10개사를 지원하고 있다. 엘캠프 1~5기, 엘캠프 부산 1기 등 82개사를 비롯해 롯데액셀러레이터가 지원한 스타트업은 100개사가 넘는다.
롯데액셀러레이터는 지난해 6월, 총 272억원 규모의 '롯데스타트업펀드 1호'를 조성했으며 현재까지 15개 스타트업에 투자해왔다. 최근에는 공유주방 스타트업 '심플프로젝트컴퍼니'에 15억을 투자한 바 있다.
롯데액셀러레이터는 하드웨어, 핀테크, 펫(PET) 비즈니스 등 사업성이 우수하고 성장가능성이 높은 기업들에 전략적·재무적 투자를 이어감으로써 롯데그룹과의 다양한 시너지 창출을 꾀하고 있다. 또한 스타트업에 실질적인 도움이 되는 지원책을 마련해 창업생태계에 활력을 불어넣고, 더 나아가 직·간접적 일자리 창출에 기여할 수 있도록 노력하고 있다.

First released in February 2017, Vomap is South Korea's No. 1 mobile insurance integrated solution. Through the application, customers can manage their current insurance information in one place, and receive recommendations for customized insurance as well as comparative analysis of insurance products. The profile and history information of insurance designers can also be checked, allowing customers to choose their own designers.
BoMap has accumulated 1.5 million downloads and 1 million members in just two years since its launch, with only word of mouth from customers without separate marketing. In 2017, the company won the award for minister of small and medium-sized venture companies that were awarded the Digital Innovation Award and the grand prize for insurance management of Mobile Awards Korea, which was recognized for excellence in services.
Based on this investment, Vomap plans to continue various attempts to advance the insurance market, including the release of various insurance products, upgrading custom insurance recommendation algorithms through data analysis, and automating claims for insurance payments. The accumulated amount of investment received by Vomap surpassed $13 billion.
Vomap is a former member of the first batch of "L-Camp," a comprehensive support program for startups run by Lotte Accelerator, and was selected at the idea stage of "insurance wallet app" in 2016. Lotte Accelerator provided initial investment of 20 million won to BoMap, office space and mentoring, especially for systematic service planning and business model refinement.
"Foreign insurance markets such as the U.S. and Japan are already changing rapidly through INSURT." said CEO Lee Jin-sung of Lotte Accelerator.
"We plan to develop a variety of insurance products that are close to everyday life, including fine dust, sports such as golf, cell phones, and airplane delays in the future," said CEO Ryu Jun-woo of BoMap. "We will continue to focus on simplifying services and provide customized insurance by utilizing health and medical data to change consumers' perception of insurance policies that are "difficult and complex."
Meanwhile, Lotte Accelerator has been running Elcamp since 2016 and currently supports 11 fifth-term and 10 "Elcamp Busan" companies." More than 100 start-ups have been supported by Lotte Accelerators, including 82 companies, including one to five Elcamps and one to Busan.
In June last year, Lotte Accelerator created "Lotte Startup Fund No. 1" worth a total of 27.2 billion won and has invested in 15 startups so far. Recently, it has invested 1.5 billion won into "Simple Project Company," a startup company for sharing kitchen.
Lotte Accelerator is seeking to create diverse synergy with Lotte Group by continuing strategic and financial investments in companies with good business and high potential for growth, including hardware, fintech and PET business. In addition, the company is striving to revitalize the start-up ecosystem by providing practical support measures to help start-ups and further contribute to the creation of direct and indirect jobs.
