KT(회장 황창규)가 대림 오토바이(대표 배원복), AJ 바이크(대표 서재원)와 함께 전기이륜차를 기반으로 한 스마트 모빌리티 서비스 사업 활성화에 나선다.
KT는 16일 광화문 KT사옥에서 대림 오토바이, AJ 바이크와 ‘EV(Electric Vehicle) 모빌리티 사업 활성화를 위한 업무협약’을 체결하고, 전기이륜차 배터리 공유 서비스 등 EV 기반의 스마트 모빌리티 사업을 공동으로 추진한다고 밝혔다.
전기이륜차는 화석연료를 사용하는 내연기관을 전기 배터리로 대체해 탄소배출량 감축 및 미세먼지 저감 등의 친환경 운송수단으로 주목 받고 있다. 하지만 짧은 운행 거리와 오랜 충전 시간 등의 한계로 이용이 제한적인 단점이 있다. KT, 대림 오토바이, AJ 바이크 3사는 이번 협약을 바탕으로 전기이륜차의 단점을 보완하고 이를 활성화하기 위한 배터리 공유 서비스를 공동 개발할 계획이다.
전기이륜차 배터리 공유 서비스는 전기이륜차 이용자가 인근에 설치된 배터리스테이션에서 소모된 배터리를 반납하고 충전이 완료된 배터리를 교환 및 즉시 사용하는 서비스이다. 배터리를 오랜 시간 충전해야 하는 기존 플러그인(Plug-in) 충전 방식과 달리 수 초만에 배터리를 교환할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 따라서, 전기이륜차를 중단 없이 이용할 수 있게 돼 이용에 제한이 있는 기존 전기이륜차의 단점을 완벽하게 보완할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
이번 협약에 따라 국내 커넥티드카 플랫폼 1위 사업자(점유율 약 47%, 과기부, ‘19년 3월 기준)인 KT는 전기이륜차 관제 및 배터리 공유 플랫폼을 개발하고, 서비스 운영을 전담한다. 전기이륜차 이용자는 KT가 개발한 스마트폰 앱 형태의 플랫폼을 통해 배터리스테이션 위치, 배터리 잔량 등 주요 운행 정보를 파악할 수 있다. 국내 이륜차 1위 제조업체인 대림 오토바이와 이륜차 렌털 1위 사업자인 AJ 바이크는 배터리 공유형 전기이륜차를 개발하고, 퀵서비스·프랜차이즈·배달대행 업체 등 B2B 고객 유치를 통해 서비스 상용화 기반을 조성한다.
KT, 대림 오토바이, AJ바이크 3사는 각 분야별 리딩 사업자간의 시너지를 바탕으로 배터리 공유 서비스 기술표준화 등 전기이륜차 활성화에 적극 나설 계획이다. 초기에는 전기이륜차를 소유하고 있는 B2B 고객을 대상으로 배터리 공유 서비스 사업을 진행하며, 빅데이터를 활용한 운행 데이터 분석 등으로 서비스 모델을 고도화 할 예정이다. 추후에는 개인 이용자들이 곳곳에 배치된 전기이륜차를 편리하게 이용할 수 있도록 하는 공유 서비스 사업으로 확장해 퍼스트 마일(First Mile)과 라스트 마일(Last Mile)을 잇는 신규 모빌리티 사업으로 확대한다는 계획이다.
KT 커넥티드카 비즈센터 최강림 상무는 “KT의 커넥티드카 플랫폼과 대림 오토바이, AJ 바이크의 이륜차 제조 및 렌털 사업 역량을 결집하여 새로운 공유형 모빌리티 사업을 선보이겠다“며 “퍼스트 마일(First Mile)에서 라스트 마일(Last Mile)까지 끊김 없는 스마트 모빌리티 서비스를 바탕으로 업계 리딩 사업자로서의 입지를 공고히 하겠다”고 밝혔다.
대림 오토바이 배원복 대표는 “배터리 공유 서비스 사업 추진을 위해 기술 표준화에 집중하고, 고객들이 전기이륜차를 더욱 편리하게 이용할 수 있도록 관제 서비스를 제공할 예정”이라며 “이륜차 업계의 리더로서 정부의 친환경, 미세먼지 저감정책에 적극 대응해 나가겠다”고 포부를 밝혔다.
AJ 바이크 서재원 대표는 “AJ 바이크는 국내 상업용 이륜차 시장을 선도하고 있는 국내 최대 규모의 오토바이 렌털전문기업으로서 KT, 대림 오토바이와 적극 협력해 정부 시책에 부합하고, 고객 니즈에 맞는 상품을 다양한 플랫폼을 통해 공급할 계획”이라고 덧붙였다.
[Focus] KT-Daelim Motorcycle-AJ Bike 'EV Smart Mobility' Business Jointly Promote
KT (Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu) is going to vitalize Smart Mobility Service business based on electric motorcycle along with Daelim Motor (CEO Bae Won-bok) and AJ Bike (CEO Seo Jae-won).
KT made an announcement on the 16th (Su) that it will sign a business agreement with Daelim Motor and AJ Bike to vitalize its electric vehicle mobility business at KT building in Gwanghwamun, and that it will jointly pursue EV-based smart mobility businesses such as electric and motorcycle battery sharing services.
Electric two-wheelers replace internal combustion engines that use fossil fuels with electric batteries, drawing attention as eco-friendly means of transportation such as reducing carbon emissions and reducing fine dust. However, it is limited in its use due to limitations such as short driving distances and long charging times. Based on the agreement, the three companies -- KT, Daelim Motorcycle and AJ Bike -- plan to jointly develop battery-sharing services to complement the shortcomings of electric-wheelers and boost them.
Electric motorcycle battery sharing service is a service in which electric motorcycle users return batteries consumed in nearby battery stations, replace and immediately use batteries that have been charged. Unlike previous plug-in charging methods, which require long-term charging of batteries, batteries can be replaced in seconds. Therefore, it is expected that electric motorcycles will be able to be used without interruption to make up for the shortcomings of existing electric vehicles that are limited in their use.
Under the agreement, KT, which is the No. 1 provider of connected car platforms in South Korea (approximately 47 percent of the total share rate, Ministry of Science and Technology, and 'As of March19), will develop a platform for controlling electric motor vehicles and sharing batteries, and will be in charge of operating services. Users of electric and motorcycle cars can figure out major operational information such as location of battery rotation and remaining battery volume through a platform in the form of a smartphone app developed by KT. Daelim Motor Co., the country's top two-wheeler manufacturer, and AJ Vike Co., the No. 1 operator of rental two-wheelers, will develop battery-sharing electric motorcycle and create a foundation for commercializing the service by attracting B2B customers, including quick service, Franchise and delivery agencies.
KT, Daelim Motorcycle and AJ Bike are planning to actively promote electric and motor vehicles such as standardization of technologies for battery sharing services based on synergy between leading businesses in each field. In the beginning, the company will carry out a battery-sharing service business for B2B customers who own electric vehicles, and upgrade its service model by analyzing operational data using big data. In the future, the company plans to expand into a new mobility business linking First Mile and Last Mile by expanding into a shared service business that allows convenient use of electric vehicles placed in various places by individual users.
"We will introduce a new shared mobility business by combining KT's connected car platform, Daelim Motor Co. and AJ Vike's two-wheel manufacturing and rental business." said Choi Kang-rim, executive vice president of KT's Connected Car Center.
"We will focus on standardization of technologies in order to promote battery sharing service business and provide control services to customers so that they can use electric and motorcycles more conveniently." said Bae Won-bok, CEO of Daelim Motor. "As the leader of the motorcycle industry, we will actively respond to the government's eco-friendly and fine dust reduction policies."
"As the largest motorcycle rental company in Korea that leads the domestic commercial motorcycle market, AJ Bike plans to actively cooperate with KT and Daelim Motor to meet government initiatives and supply products that meet customer needs through various platforms," added Seo Jae-won, CEO of AJ Bike.
