LG디스플레이(대표이사 한상범 부회장)가 국제 무대에서 압도적인 OLED 기술력을 다시 한번 인정 받았다.
LG디스플레이는 16일(현지시간) 오전, 미국 새너제이(산호세)에서 열린 'SID (Society for Information Display, 국제정보디스플레이학회) 2019'에서 차세대 OLED TV를 앞세워 최고상인 ‘People’s Choice 어워드’ 2관왕에 올랐다.
SID는 전 세계 디스플레이 업계 전문가, 연구원, 교수 등 5,000여명 이상이 소속되어 있는 세계 최대 규모의 디스플레이 학회로, 매년 새로운 기술과 제품을 전시하고 연구논문을 발표하는 행사를 진행하고 있다.
‘People’s Choice 어워드’는 기존 ‘Best in Show 어워드’ 대신 올해부터 신설된 상이다. SID는 전시 기간 중 관람객 투표를 통해 가장 혁신적인 전시 제품과 전시장 등 7개 부문을 선정해 이 상을 수여한다.
LG디스플레이의 ‘88인치 8K OLED’는 최고 디스플레이 부문(Best New Display Technology)을 수상했다. LG디스플레이가 지난해 세계 최초로 공개한 88인치 8K OLED 디스플레이는 이번 SID 전시 기간에도 관람객들의 관심과 찬사를 한 몸에 받았다. 현존하는 OLED TV 라인업 중 가장 큰 초대형이자 초고해상도의 프리미엄 제품으로 3,300만개의 픽셀 하나하나를 제어할 수 있어 더욱 섬세한 표현이 가능하다.
또 LG디스플레이는 혁신적인 OLED 제품과 전시 디자인의 조화 및 관람 편의성 등을 인정받아 최고 전시장 부문(Best Major Booth)도 함께 수상했다. LG디스플레이는 전시장 전면에 설치한 롤러블 OLED TV 등 다양한 OLED 신제품을 내세워 많은 관람객들의 시선을 사로잡았다.
LG디스플레이 CTO(최고기술책임자) 강인병 부사장은 "LG디스플레이는 8K 초고해상도는 물론, 돌돌 말리는 롤러블 OLED, 종이처럼 얇은 월페이퍼 OLED, 패널에서 소리가 나는 크리스탈 사운드 OLED 등 혁신 기술들을 선보여왔다”라며 “지속적인 연구개발을 통해 디스플레이의 새 역사를 써가는 기술 선도 기업으로 자리매김 할 것"이라고 말했다.

LG Display (CEO and Vice Chairman Han Sang-beom) has once again been recognized for its overwhelming technical skills in OLEDs on the international stage.
LG Display won the second prize at the "People's Choice Award" for its next-generation OLED TVs at the Society for Information Display (SID) 2019 held in San Jose, U.S. on Wednesday.
SID is the world's largest display academy, which has more than 5,000 display industry experts, researchers and professors from around the world, and holds an event to display new technologies and products and publish research papers every year.
The People's Choice Award is a new award from this year instead of the previous "Best in Show Award." During the exhibition period, the SID selects seven categories, including the most innovative exhibition products and exhibition halls, through a vote by visitors to present the award.
LG Display's '88-inch 8K OLED' won the Best New Display Technology award. LG Display's 88-inch 8K OLED display, which was unveiled last year for the first time in the world, received attention and praise from visitors during the SID exhibition. It is the largest OLED TV lineup in the world and the highest resolution premium product, and can control every 33 million pixels, making it more detailed.
In addition, LG Display also won the Best Major Boot in recognition of its innovative OLED products and display design harmonization and ease of viewing. LG Display grabbed the eyes of many visitors by presenting various new OLED products, including rollable OLED TVs installed on the front of the exhibition hall.
"LG Display has been introducing innovative technologies such as rollable OLED, paper-thin wallpaper OLED, and crystal sound OLED that make sound from panels as well as 8K ultra-high resolution." said Vice President Kang In-byung of CTO (CTO) of LG Display.
