[New Technology] Transphorm’s Gen III JEDEC-Qualified GaN to Power Wentai’s New 1.6 kW Titanium ATX PC Gaming Power Supply

Taiwanese OEM company Wentai Technology Corporation has officially announced on the 29th that it has developed a series of titanium ATX game power supplies called Aidan.

In particular, this company emphasized that it is a leading company called Transform Inc., which first obtained JEDEV and AEC-Q101 certification and designs and manufactures high-voltage GaN semiconductors that show the highest level of reliability.

The flagship product, Aidan-T1616, uses TP65H050WS Gen III 50 millihm (mΩ) GaN FET of transforms in an interleaved CCM boost PFC controller. As a result, it is a fully modular, low-noise 1616 W80 PLUS® titanium power supply (PSU) that is nearly 95% efficient.

The Aidan ATX PSU series is targeting the consumer computer market, which requires ultra-high-voltage power, such as PC gaming, E-Sports, artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency mining. Compared to Wentai's silicon-based 1.28 kW PSU, Aidan-T1616 shows an efficiency of about 1% higher power and 50% full load, all within the same form factor. This is equivalent to a 20 percent increase in power density.

"The high-performance PC market plays a unique role in applications such as immersive games, artificial intelligence and virtual currency mining, which require a significant amount of power compared to everyday PC applications," said Aidan Liao, chief research and development director of Wentai. "GaN provides us with the technological advantage of designing an e-Dan power supply to meet this demand." "Transform's GaN provides the advantages of correct quality, reliability and performance, and ultimately realizing our vision of providing the best quality and the right price of power supply," he added.

Wentai's power system development project took place after an 18-month process. During the period, the company worked with Transform's regional application support team, whose positive reputation is said to be another factor behind Wentai's choice of Transform's GaN device, according to Liao.

The Aidan-1616, which will be officially launched in early 2020, will be demonstrated at the Computex exhibition in Wentai, Hall 1-1F and I1307 booths. Aidan's product line will be expanded to PSUs by various watts, including 777 W, 888 W, 1,111 W, 1288 W and 1388 W.
