Ninety-nine percent of all employees at Homeplus have become "regular workers."

Homeplus (President Lim Il-soon) said it has put 14,283 weapons contract workers on full-time status as of Monday. This is about 62 percent of Homeplus' total employees.

As a result, the portion of regular employees among Homeplus' 23,000 employees, including Homeplus, Homeplus Stores and Homeplus Holdings, will be 99 percent, or 22,900. Only 1 percent (2,28) of non-regular workers remained.

In particular, Homeplus' latest switch to full-time status is significant as it does not establish a separate subsidiary or create a new job force, and is to be issued as a "preferred" position, an existing full-time position. Homeplus has assigned all 14,283 "employees" to "precedence," a position of existing arms contract workers, and such a "unconditional" transition to regular workers is expected to be recorded as the largest in the country.

As a result, they will be subject to the same promotion process as the existing full-time job system. If he works for five years as a chief executive, he will be able to be promoted to acting director four years later, and then to section chief, deputy director and manager depending on the number of years he has been working. In other words, there is a way for employees who have joined the arms contract positions to be promoted to the position of a branch manager.

Homeplus plans to offer career development support programs for its employees who have been converted into regular workers this time, offering a vision to grow into managers or fresh experts.

Accordingly, the company plans to focus on training the employees who will be transferred to regular positions for two weeks from July 12 on various changes in the system and their duties.

Since many of Homeplus' employees are women (72.5 percent), it is expected that this transition will increase the number of female managers in terms of personnel and composition costs.

In fact, only 11 female employees were promoted to manager positions at Homeplus last year, but 74 female employees have already been promoted to manager this year. The figure represents a whopping 573 percent increase from the previous year, accounting for 25.3 percent of all managers promoted.

The company, meanwhile, expects the switch to allow more stable store operations as the average length of service for its employees continues to increase.

The average length of service for Homeplus employees was 7 to 9 years (11 months for men and 86 months for women) as of last year, a steady increase from 6 to 8 years for 2017, 103 months for men and 77 months for women, and 5 to 7 years for 2016, and 93 months for men and 69 months for women.

The longest-serving staff among the employees who will be transferred to full-time positions is three employees who have been working at the Daegu branch for 22 years since they joined Homeplus on July 21, 1997. The 19-year-old employee, who worked at KINTEX for one year and one month, was the youngest person to switch to work.

"This change is meaningful not only to 14,283 people who switch to full-time jobs, but also to all the family members who celebrate with them," said Lim Il-soon, president of Homeplus. "The fact that executives and employees who have worked with the company over the past 22 years will be a glorious new beginning, a turning point in Homeplus' history, and a turning point that will strengthen the company's future at the same time."
