Yuhan Corp. (CEO Lee Jung-hee) has made a strategic investment worth 6 billion won ($6 million) into the seedbed round of domestic research firm Imneuron Bioscience Co., Ltd. (Seed Round: the initial financing phase in which it receives investment from investors in the early stages of its start-up). This investment demonstrates the strong will of limited concession to become a global leading company by challenging the unexplored sector with a sense of responsibility for research in basic science of innovation and the development of new drugs for incurable diseases.

Imneuron Bioscience is a startup research company and was co-founded in April 2019 by two professors at Sungkyunkwan University and Kim Han-joo, CEO of Yuhan Corp. It is committed to basic scientific research that can develop new treatments for patients suffering from incurable diseases such as brain diseases, and has a number of platform technology-related IPs to develop next-generation treatments. Examples are 'Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) permeable platform technology' that can be combined with a variety of drugs and 'Invivo' live imaging technology that can quantitatively measure the permeability of the drug's cerebral vascular barrier.

Yuhan's equity investment is a step forward in the practice of open innovation On May 5, Yuhan signed a business agreement with Sungkyunkwan University to forge a comprehensive and strategic partnership to develop the nation's bio industry and enhance human health

Yuhan has decided to jointly develop a treatment for cerebral vascular wall-penetrating brain diseases with Iimnuron, and through this, it plans to strengthen its new drug pipeline for brain disease areas such as brain cancer and degenerative brain diseases.

"This investment is an opportunity for Yuhan Corporation, Sungkyunkwan University, and Imneuron Bioscience to pursue future-oriented development of the national bio industry and challenge the development of next-generation innovative new drugs." said President Lee Jung-hee of Yuhan.

New drugs for hard-to-cure diseases are in high demand, but patients suffer and slow growth due to the lack of sufficient technology challenges.

"I hope that Imneuron's research platform technology will provide new treatments and hopes for patients who have had difficulties in treatment in the global pharmaceutical industry," said Chung Yi-jong, CEO of King Go Investment Partners, who invested 4 billion won in Imneuron Bio Science with Yuhan.

"By attracting investment, IimNurean plans to focus primarily on maturing its brain vessel barrier drug-fighting platform technology, which shows technological limitations in the development of new drugs for brain diseases," said Kim Han-joo, chief executive of Bioscience at Imneuron. "In the long run, we will create a new model that combines basic scientific excellence and new drug development capabilities at the global level to grow into a global research institute."

Yuhan said, "As the No. 1 pharmaceutical company, it will fulfill its responsibility to create a healthy ecosystem by investing in technology of start-up companies, while at the same time continuing to make faithful investments in its original mission of dealing with patients and diseases quickly."
