Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. has won an order to build a mega plant in Saudi Arabia.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. signed a $2.7 billion contract at the headquarters of Saudi Aramco's Daran on Tuesday (local time), under which it signed a "Saudi Mazan Development Program Package 6 and Package 12."

Attending the signing ceremony for the contract were Saudi Aramco President Amin H.Nasser, senior vice president of Ahmad A. Al-Sa'adi, senior vice president of the Fahad E. Al-Helal Project Management, Lee Won-woo, executive vice president of the plant business division of Hyundai Engineering and Construction.

The two projects, ordered by Saudi Arabia's state-run oil company Aramco, are the main packages of the Mazan development program to handle gas and crude oil produced from the Marjan region's offshore oil fields, about 250 kilometers northwest of Saudi Arabia's eastern Damam.

Package 6 has a total construction amount of about $14.8 billion (about 1.7189 trillion won) and the construction period is 41 months after the start of construction, and it is expanded to separate 300,000 barrels of crude oil and gas from existing plants.

Meanwhile, Package 12 is an indirect facility installation project that supplies utilities such as power and water to landplants that process 2,500 MMSCFD gas, with the construction amount of 12.5 billion U.S. dollars (about 1.457 trillion won in Korean currency), 41 months after the start of construction.

In particular, the latest order is all the more meaningful as it was selected as the final bidder in recognition of Hyundai Engineering & Construction's excellent technical skills and successful construction capability from its owner Aramco after fierce competition with global leading rivals during the bidding evaluation process.

Hyundai E&C has successfully completed the construction of the Karan gas processing facility ordered by Saudi Arabia's state-run oil company Aramco (Aramco, 2012), and the construction of the Qurais gas processing facility (700 million dollars, 2009).

In addition, the company successfully carried out construction of Utsmania ethane recovery processing facility ($700 million, scheduled for completion in November 2019) and maintains mutual trust with the owner.

It is expected that Hyundai Engineering & Construction will gain a better position in the construction of additional orders not only in Saudi Arabia but also in the Middle East based on its outstanding technology and excellent performance.

"We won the order based on the trust of our owners in all aspects of the technology, quality and process of the Utsmania ethane recovery processing facility that Aramco has ordered," said an official of Hyundai Construction. "In particular, we hope that the successful completion of the Qatar National Museum, Kuwait's Javert Causeway Marine Bridge, and the winning of the order will be a positive boost for the entire construction industry."

Meanwhile, Hyundai E&C has secured orders worth 156 projects including the construction of the Maden Alumina smelting plant in 2012 for half a century since it entered Saudi Arabia in 1975, starting with the construction of the Jubilee industrial port in 1975.

Currently, it carries out a total of six cases, including the construction of Utsmania ethane recovery processing facility, worth $1.4 billion, and is recognized for its outstanding construction and technological prowess by the Saudi government and its owners.
