구글이 클라우드 저장업체 '일래스티파일'을 인수한다. 최근 미국 실리콘밸리를 중심으로 글로벌 IT기업의 클라우드 사업 경쟁력 강화 움직임이 본격화 되고 있는 데 따른 대비 차원으로 알려졌다. 최근 글로벌 클라우드 사업 분야는 아마존과 마이크로소프트, IBM 등이 시장을 주도하고 있다.
12일 M&A업계에 따르면 미국 경제매체 CNBC는 지난 9일(현지시각) 구글이 이래스티파일을 인수한다고 보도했다. 인수작업은 올해 중 마무리 할 계획이다. 다만 구글은 인수가격을 공개하지는 않았다.
구글은 일래스티파일 M&A를 바탕으로 현재 서비스 중인 구글 클라우드 파일스토어의 경쟁력 강화와 동시에 확장된 컴퓨팅(연산)·저장 역량을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
일래스티파일 인수는 구글의 클라우드 사업 부문 수장으로 오라클 출신의 토머스 쿠리안이 임명된 이후 두번째다. 구글은 쿠리안 취임 이후 클라우드 사업의 확장을 모색해왔다.
구글은 지난달 빅데이터 분석업체 '루커'를 26억 달러(약 3조700억원)에 인수한다고 밝힌 바 있다. 루커는 클라우드 서비스를 통해 빅데이터를 분석하고 이를 바탕으로 경영 전략 설계, 경영 효율화, 성과 관리, 시장 예측 등을 하는 기업이다.
클라우드 서비스는 방대한 각종 데이터와 이를 분석·가공할 소프트웨어를 온라인으로 제공하는 만큼 규모가 급격히 커지고 있는 시장이다.
현재 아마존과 마이크로소프트(MS) 등이 시장을 선점하고 있고, IBM 등이 인수합병을 통해 경쟁력을 확대하고 있다. 그러나 구글은 해당 업체들에 비해 시장점유율이 상대적으로 낮았다.
시장조사업체 캐널리스에 따르면 작년 말 기준 클라우드 시장 점유율은 아마존이 32.0%, 마이크로소프트가 13.7%, 구글이 7.6%였다.
M&A업계 관계자는 "최근 글로벌 시장에서 클라우드 분야의 M&A가 활발하게 진행되고 있다"며 "인공지능 시대를 맞아 빅데이터의 중요성이 강조된 상황에서 구글과 IMB 등 글로벌 IT공룡기업들의 클라우드 사업 경쟁력 강화 차원의 M&A는 계속될 것으로 보인다"고 말했다.

Google is going to take over 'Ilstipile', which is a cloud storage company. It is heard that Samsung Electronics is preparing to prepare for global IT companies' recent move to strengthen their competitive edge in cloud business with Silicon Valley in the U.S. Amazon, Microsoft and IBM are leading the market in the global cloud business recently.
According to M&A industries on the 12th, U.S. economic media CNBC reported on the 9th (U.S. time) that Google will take over Ithastiffile. It plans to complete the acquisition process sometime this year. However, Google did not disclose the acquisition price.
Based on Elastiffile M&A, Google is expecting that it will be able to provide expanded computing and storage capabilities at the same time as strengthening its competitive edge in Google's cloud file store currently in service.
It will be the second acquisition of ElastiFile since Thomas Kurian, a former Oracle, was appointed head of Google's cloud business. Google has been seeking to expand its cloud business since taking office in Kurian.
Google said last month that it will buy big data analytics firm "Rooker" for $2.6 billion. Rooker is a company that analyzes big data through Cloud service and based on this analysis, designs management strategy, efficiency of management, performance management, and forecasts of markets.
Cloud services are rapidly growing in size as they provide vast variety of data and software that will analyze and process them online.
Currently, Amazon and Microsoft dominate the market, while IBM and others are expanding their competitiveness through mergers and acquisitions. Google, however, had a relatively low market share compared to the companies involved.
According to a market research company called Canalys, Amazon had 32.0%, Microsoft 13.7%, and Google 7.6% as of the end of last year.
"M&As in the cloud sector are actively being carried out in global markets recently." said a representative for M&A industries. "With the importance of big data being emphasized in the era of artificial intelligence, it is likely that global IT dinosaur companies such as Google and IMB will continue to strengthen their competitiveness in the cloud business."
