[편집자주]서울시의 산업진흥 및 중소기업 육성 정책의 효율적인 추진을 위해 설립된 서울산업진흥원(SBA)의 다양한 지원사업들이 관내 중소 스타트업들의 인큐베이팅 역할을 톡톡히 하며 주목받고 있다. 좋은 일자리 창출을 핵심 목표로 창업, 유통, 교육, 콘텐츠, 특허, R&D 등 다양한 서비스를 제공하고 있는 서울산업진흥원의 지원사업들은 중소 스타트업들이 '강소기업'으로 도약할 수 있는 밑거름이 되고 있다는 평가를 받고 있다. 이에 서울산업진흥원(SBA)과 디지털 경제신문 ‘비즈니스리포트’는 SBA의 지원사업 수혜를 통해서 성공한 많은 중소 스타트업들의 성공스토리를 기획특집기사로 연재한다.

성분을 꼼꼼히 따져보고 구매하는 소비성향이 먹고 바르는 제품을 넘어서 전자 제품까지 확대되고 있는 가운데 인체의 유해한 물질을 철저히 배제한 '전기요'를 선보이고 있는 기업이 있어 주목된다.  23년차의 콘트롤러 전문 생산 전문 강소기업으로 유명한 시트로닉스(주)의 자회사인 김원선 대표의 슬립메이트(주)다. 김 대표는 한국인의 온돌문화를 침대환경에서 보다 안전하고 건강하게 적용할 수 있는 전기요의 필요성을 확인하고 지난 2015년 슬립메이트를 창업했다. 슬립메이트는 창업 첫해 1억4600만원 매출을 시작으로 올해는 상반기 기준으로만 40억원 매출을 돌파하는 기염을 토해내며 업계의 주목을 받고 있다.

#DC방식의 안전한 가정용 온열기기 '슬립메이트'
슬립메이트는 기존 시장에 나와 있는 높은 전압의 화재 및 전자파 문제가 우려되는 AC(교류)방식의 제품이 아닌, DC(직류)방식의 초절전 및 화재 전자파로부터 안전한 가정용 온열기기를 선보이고 있다. 주력 제품으로는 슬립메이트 전기요, 온열 복대, 온별 조끼 등이다.

전기요는 원적외선을 다량 방출하는 자체개발 원적외선 나노 발열실을 사용했으며, 유해물질을 사용하지 않는 안전한 핸드메이드 방식으로 제작됐다. 세탁이 가능한 실용적인 커버형 타입의 디자인과 저전압 (DC)을 적용해 유해 전자파가 원천 차단된 것이 특징이다. 낮은 전력 소모량으로 월 1000원의 낮은 전기료도 장점이다.

온열복대도 원적외선을 다량 방출 시키는 원적외선 나노 발열실이 적용됐으며, 안전한 핸드메이드 방식으로 제작됐다. 낮은 전력으로도 뛰어난 온열감을 자랑하며 탄력성과 신축성이 좋다. 손쉬운 3단계 온도 조절과 간편하게 사이즈 조절이 가능하다.

#인체친화적, 유해물질 無
슬립메이트는 DC 방식의 전원을 적용한 것 외에도 제작과정 중 어떠한 유해물질도 사용하지 않은 것이 특징이자 강력한 제품 경쟁력이다. 시중에 나와 있는 일반적인 전기매트나 전기요의 경우 제작의 편의를 위해 본드나 글루건 등을 사용하는 경우가 대부분이다. 하지만 슬립메이트의 전 제품은 이같은 유해물질을 전혀 사용하지 않았다는 것이 회사측 설명이다. 또한 유연성을 최대한 살려서 물세탁이 가능해 위생적이다.

슬립메이트는 제품 경쟁력을 인정 받아 ▲ 2017년 에너지효율대상 산업통상부 장관상 수상 ▲2018년 국내 및 세계최초 공정무역 인증 전기요 수상 ▲2019년 하이서울우수상품 브랜드 어워드에 선정됐다.

김 대표는 "일반적인 전기메트에서 잠을 자면 몸이 찌뿌둥 하다고 한다. 기존 AC방식의 전자파 문제만이 아닌, 본드와 같은 유해물질로 인해 수면중 인체에 안좋은 영향을 주기 때문이다."라며 "슬립메이트의 모든 제품은 처음부터 끝까지 재봉틀을 이용한 침구 제작방법을 적용한 핸드메이드 제품이다."라고 설명했다.

#연 30억원 이상 매출 계약 성사...매출 1000억원 기업을 향해서
차별화된 제품력으로 빠른 성장을 이뤄내고 있는 슬립메이트는 지난해 연간 30억원의 판매 매출을 발생시킬 수 있는 OEM납품 계약을 한샘과 성사시켰다. 이는 짧은 업력이지만 제품에 대한 확신과 제품에 대한 책임을 끝까지 지겠다는 슬립메이트의 경영 철학을 시장에서 인정받은 것이라는 평가를 받고 있다.

슬립메이트는 올해 중국CCC 인증을 진행하는 등 해외 수출에도 박차를 가하고 있으며, 올해 하반기 겨울시즌을 대비한 온열 토퍼, 웜 바디 온열복대 출시 준비에 총력을 기울이고 있다.

김 대표는 "품질을 최우선으로 하며, 대량으로 빨리 만들기보다 안전하고 건강한 제품을 만드는 것에 최우선으로 하고 있다."라며 "'새로운 생각과 실천이 1000억 제품을 만든다'란 마음가짐으로 항상 고민 하고 실천하면서 1000억 매출 이상의 기업으로 성장하기 위해 최선의 노력을 하겠다."고 포부를 밝혔다.
