퍼스널 모빌리티 공유 통합 플랫폼 ‘고고씽’을 운영하는 매스아시아가 캠퍼스 기반의 전동킥보드 공유 스타트업‘알파카’를 인수합병했다. 공유경제가 화두로 떠오르고 있는 만큼 사업경쟁력 강화 일환에서 진행됐다.

13일 인수합병업계(M&A)에 따르면 매스아시아는 지난 5일 알파카 M&A를 공식화했다. 매스아시아는 국내 최초 공유 자전거 서비스를 시작한 스타트업으로 올해 4월 공유 전기자전거, 전동킥보드와 같은 퍼스널 모빌리티를 공유하는 통합 플랫폼인 ‘고고씽’을 런칭해 운영중이다.

공유 모빌리티 최초 PM(Personal Mobility) 보험 적용했고 메쉬코리아와의 MOU를 통한 퍼스널 모빌리티와 물류 시장의 연결, GS25와 배터리 스테이션 업무 제휴 등 퍼스널 모빌리티 시장 확대와 인식 개선 등을 위한 노력도 기울였다.
매스아시아가 M&A를 진행한 ‘알파카’는 카이스트 출신 멤버들이 창업한 공유 전동킥보드 서비스로 캠퍼스를 통한 진출 전략과 서비스에  게이미피케이션(Gamification)을 도입해 사용자에게 재미요소를 제공하는 등 차별성을 갖췄다는 평가를 받고 있다.

매스아시아의 투자 유치는 TBT(대표이사 이람) 외 벤처캐피털 2곳으로부터 비공개로 이뤄졌다. TBT는 매스아시아의 프리A 투자사로 재투자로 참여했다.

김동욱 TBT 이사는 “매스아시아팀이 지닌 차별화된 하드웨어와 현장 운영 능력, 알파카팀이 가진 서비스 개발 능력의 결합 시너지를 기대한다”며 “재투자를 통해 그 시너지에 힘을 실어주고자 했다”고 말했다.

매스아시아는 알파카 M&A를 바탕으로 재미와 편리함을 추구하는 20대 대학생을 공략하기 위해 도심 지역뿐만 아니라 서울, 경기, 대전, 제주 등의 캠퍼스 진출을 본격 추진할 계획이다.

정수영 매스아시아 대표는 “이번 투자 유치는 빠르게 성장하고 변화하는 퍼스널 모빌리티 시장에서 우위를 점할 수 있는 발판이 될 것”이라며 “알파카와의 인수합병을 통해 퍼스널 모빌리티 시장에서의 주도권을 강화하고, 전동킥보드 공유 서비스로서의 경쟁력을 극대화하겠다”고 말했다.

한편 매스아시아는 지난달 산업통상자원부의 규제샌드박스를 통과해 9월부터 정부의 지원 하에 경기도 화성시 동탄2신도시 일원에서 공유 전동킥보드 실증특례 사업을 진행할 예정이다.

[M&A] Go-Go-Thing Operation Mass Asia, Mergers and Acquisitions of 'Alpaca' and Attracts Investment

Mass Asia, which operates Personal Mobility sharing integrated platform called "Shining," has acquired and acquired Alpaca, a campus-based power kickboard sharing startup. As the shared economy is emerging as a hot topic, it was carried out as part of strengthening business competitiveness.



According to the M&A industry on the 13th, Mass Asia officially confirmed Alpha Car M&A on the 5th. MassAsia is the first startup in Korea to start a shared bike service and is currently operating "Shining," an integrated platform that shares personal mobility such as shared electric bicycles and electric kickboards, in April this year.



It applied personal mobility insurance for the first time in shared mobility, and also made efforts to expand and improve awareness of the personal mobility market, including the connection of the personal mobility and logistics market through MOU with mesh Korea, and the partnership between GS25 and battery stations.
Alpaca, which mass Asia hosted M&A, is a shared electric kickboard service founded by KAIST-turned-members, which is said to be differentiated by introducing a "Gamification" to advance through the campus and providing users with fun elements.



The bid to attract investment from Mass Asia was made behind closed doors from two other venture capitals besides TBT (CEO Lee Lam). TBT participated in the re-investment as a FreeA Investment Company of Mass Asia.



"We look forward to combining the differentiated hardware, field operation and service development capabilities of the Mas Asia team," said Kim Dong-wook, director of TBT.



Mass Asia plans to make full-fledged inroads into campuses in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Daejeon and Jeju as well as in urban areas to target university students in their 20s who seek fun and convenience based on Alpha Car M&A.



"This investment attraction will be a springboard for us to gain an upper hand in the fast-growing and changing personal mobility market," said Jung Soo-young, CEO of Mass Asia, adding, "We will strengthen our leadership in the personal mobility market through mergers and acquisitions with Alpaca, and maximize our competitiveness as an electric kickboard sharing service."



Meanwhile, Mass Asia passed the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's regulatory sandbox last month and will carry out the project in September under the government's support in Dongtan 2 New Town in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
