[편집자주]서울시의 산업진흥 및 중소기업 육성 정책의 효율적인 추진을 위해 설립된 서울산업진흥원(SBA)의 다양한 지원사업들이 관내 중소 스타트업들의 인큐베이팅 역할을 톡톡히 하며 주목받고 있다. 좋은 일자리 창출을 핵심 목표로 창업, 유통, 교육, 콘텐츠, 특허, R&D 등 다양한 서비스를 제공하고 있는 서울산업진흥원의 지원사업들은 중소 스타트업들이 '강소기업'으로 도약할 수 있는 밑거름이 되고 있다는 평가를 받고 있다. 이에 서울산업진흥원(SBA)과 디지털 경제신문 ‘비즈니스리포트’는 SBA의 지원사업 수혜를 통해서 성공한 많은 중소 스타트업들의 성공스토리를 기획특집기사로 연재한다.

"화학 분야 전문가가 만드는 화장품은 어떨까?" 트러스트리(TRUSTYRY)는 고분자시스템공학과 석사 출신으로 원료 및 소재 분야에서 경력을 쌓아온 조재욱 대표가 지난 2018년 설립한 '믿을 수 있는 화장품'을 표방하는 회사다. 조 대표는 " 트러스트리는 믿음이라는 TRUST와 화학이라는 CHEMISTRY가 만나 믿을 수 있는 화학을 하는 회사이다."라며 "화학이라는 것이 현재 사람들에게 지나칠 정도로 공포의 대상으로 인식되어 있는데, 화학이 사람들의 생활과 편리에 얼만큼 기여를 하고 있으며 잘 사용하면 얼마든지 삶에 도움이 되는 것을 알리고 싶었다."고 창업 취지를 설명했다.

#주의 성분 배제, 고급 원료 함유한 '트러스트리 마스크팩'
트러스트리가 선보이고 있는 주요 제품은 주의를 요하는 성분은 철저히 배제하면서도 고급 피부 유효 성분은 다량 함유한 마스크팩 라인이다. 대표적인 상품으로 피부성장 요소인 EGF성분과 샥스핀 콜라겐이 함유된 '트러스트리 EGF 샥스핀 콜라겐 블랙 마스크팩'과 전복과 해삼 추출물인 해양성 콜라겐이 함유된 '트러스트리 마린 콜라겐 블랙 마스크팩'이 있다. 각 제품 모두 ▲진정효과 탁월 ▲수분 보습 능력 우월 ▲피부 탄력 개선 효과가 크다는 것이 회사측 설명이다. 특히 다공성 구조, 높은 피부 흡착력, 우수한 에센스 함침량의 특징을 보이는 비장탄 시트를 적용해 유효성분을 효과적으로 전달한다. 이 제품은 뛰어난 아이디어와 상품성을 인정받아 2019 서울어워드 우수상품에 선정됐다.

조 대표는 "최근 피부 알러지 유발 주의 성분이 포함된 제품을 구매하지 않는 소비성향이 생겨나기 시작했다."라며 "이에 주의 성분들이 포함되지 않은 제품들이 나오긴 했으나 막상 좋은 고급원료들이 들어 있지 않은 것을 보고 어째서 좋은 고급 원료가 들어가면서 주의 성분이 없는 제품은 없는 것인지에 대한 의문을 시작으로 개발하게 된 제품이다."라고 설명했다.

트러스트리는 마스크팩 외에도 멘톨 성분을 함유한 '트러스트리 비누'도 주력 제품으로 선보이고 있다. 조 대표는 "트러스트리 비누는 남성이 선호하는 향을 내뿜지만 핫핑크색을 사용해 남성에게 내재된 부드러움과 약간의 여성성도 표현한 것이 특징이다."라며 "탈모, 모낭염, 보습, 세정력에 멘톨 성분이 함유돼 여름철 사용에 적합한 제품이다."라고 말했다.

#화학적 지식 기반 '화학의 B2C화'
트러스트리의 경쟁력이자 차별점은 성균관대학교 고분자시스템공학과 학사, 석사 출신의 조 대표의 이력에서 엿 볼 수 있듯이 화학적 지식 기반을 토대로 제품을 선보이고 있다는 것이다. 트러스트리는 이 같은 브랜드 경쟁력과 사업 가능성을 인정받아 대외적인 수상을 이어가고 있다. 트러스트리는 ▲인천 창조 경제 혁신 센터 사업계획서발표 최우수상 ▲기술혁신형 청년 창업지원 선정▲인천 창조 경제 혁신 센터 보육기업 선정 ▲에너지기술연구원 패밀리기업 선정 ▲신용보증기금 창업경진대회 4.0 우수상 등을 수상했다. 조 대표 또한 ▲ICCE 6기 교육을 수료했으며▲DMC이노베이션 창업 교육 수료 ▲서울 창업 허브 3기를 수료하며 회사 경영에 대한 전문성도 높이고 있다.

조 대표는 "트러스트리의 차별점은 타사의 브랜드나 회사들과 달리 화학 기업으로 시작해 유사과학이나 무의미한 근거를 기반으로 내세우지 않고 화학적 메커니즘과 화학적 지식을 기반으로 화학의 B2C화를 진행하고 있는 것이다."라고 강조했다.

#신제품 출시, 오프라인 매장 진출에 총력..."기부하는 기업 될 것"
트러스트리는 올해 말 창업 2년차를 맞이하는 신생기업이지만, 현재의 주력 제품에 만족하지 않고 지속적으로 신제품 출시에 박차를 가한다는 계획이다. 올해 중으로 비누관련 신규 제품 2종 및 화장품 앰플을 출시하는 것이 목표다. 아울러 판매 채널 또한 기존 온라인 채널에서 벗어나 오프라인 진출에도 적극 나설 예정이다.

조 대표는 "추후 매출이 조금 더 증가해 사업의 안정이 유지된다면 순이익의 30%정도를 각 아이템별로 적절한 곳에 기부를 진행하고 싶다."라며 "회사의 이윤과 성장도 중요하지만 아직 많은 분들이 어려운 환경에서 어렵게 생활하고 있다. 현재는 큰 도움이 되지 않겠지만 어려운 분들을 조금씩 도우면서 저희의 사업이 안정되게 해준 고객분들의 관심과 사랑을 나누고자 한다."고 포부를 밝혔다.

"The difference in trust is that unlike other brands and companies, we are starting as a chemical company and proceeding with B2C in chemistry based on chemical mechanisms and chemical knowledge, rather than on similar or meaningless grounds," Cho stressed.

#New product launch, full strength to enter offline stores... #"To be a contributing company"
Trustee is a start-up company that will mark its second year of start-up later this year, but plans to continue to speed up the launch of new products without being satisfied with the current flagship products. Its goal is to release two new soap-related products and cosmetics ampoule sometime this year. In addition, the sales channel will also move away from the existing online channel and go offline.

"If our sales increase a little bit further and our business is stable, we would like to donate about 30 percent of our net profits to the right places for each item," Cho said. "The company's profits and growth are important, but many people are still living in difficult circumstances.
