Tesla is known to have acquired Hiva Systems, a Canadian high-speed battery manufacturer.

According to the M&A industry on the 10th, U.S. economic magazine CNBC reported on the 7th that Tesla had acquired Haiba.

The M&A period was not exactly known. However, as the documents submitted to the Canadian government on Oct. 2 indicate Haiba as a subsidiary of Tesla, it seems that the process took place between July and September. Tesla's acquisition of the battery company was first reported by the Canadian media Electric Autonomy.

Haibar was founded in 1974 as a company headquartered in Ottrio, Canada. It is heard that it has considerable technical skills in manufacturing lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles. It currently employs about 50 employees, and also operates manufacturing facilities in South Korea.

The M&A industry expects Tesla will be able to achieve its cheaper target of producing high-performance electric vehicles and reduce its reliance on Panasonic as it was pushing to establish its own battery cell supply system.
Tesla has been relying on foreign battery manufacturers including Panasonic of Japan for lithium-ion batteries that are used in its flagship models such as Model S and Model 3.

"So far, CEO Elon Musk has expressed his willingness to produce batteries," an M&A industry source said. "As Tesla is taking over battery technology company Maxwell Tiknolgers in addition to Haiba, the battery industry is paying attention to the possibility of additional M&As for Tesla."
