[편집자주]서울시의 산업진흥 및 중소기업 육성 정책의 효율적인 추진을 위해 설립된 서울산업진흥원(SBA)의 다양한 지원사업들이 관내 중소 스타트업들의 인큐베이팅 역할을 톡톡히 하며 주목받고 있다. 좋은 일자리 창출을 핵심 목표로 창업, 유통, 교육, 콘텐츠, 특허, R&D 등 다양한 서비스를 제공하고 있는 서울산업진흥원의 지원사업들은 중소 스타트업들이 '강소기업'으로 도약할 수 있는 밑거름이 되고 있다는 평가를 받고 있다. 이에 서울산업진흥원(SBA)과 디지털 경제신문 ‘비즈니스리포트’는 SBA의 지원사업 수혜를 통해서 성공한 많은 중소 스타트업들의 성공스토리를 기획특집기사로 연재한다.

반려동물 인구 1천만명 시대를 맞아 관련 산업도 급성장 하고 있는 가운데, '사람과 반려견의 조화로운 삶을 위한 제품'이란 브랜드 컨셉을 내세우고 있는 스타트업이 있어 주목된다. 반려견을 사랑하는 마음을 넘어 반려견을 위한 제품을 직접 디자인해 선보이겠다는 포부로 지난 2016년 최고은 대표가 창업한 고니(GONEE)가 그 주인공이다.

# 반려견 산책 물컵 페트몽 '퍼피컵'
고니가 운영 중인 펫 라이프스타일 브랜드 페트몽(PETMONT)의 대표 상품은 반려견 산책 물컵 '퍼피컵'이다. 이 제품은 시중 모든 페트(PET)병에 착용하고 휴대할 수 있도록 스트랩이 달렸으며 컵만 따로 휴대가 가능하다. 실리콘 소재를 적용해 흐르는 물에 이물질이 잘 씻겨나가고, 단순한 설계로 디자인돼 세척 관리가 간편한 것이 특징이다. 프렌치 불독과 시베리안 허스키 등 두가지 디자인이 있으며 고급스러운 조각상 느낌으로 집안 내 인테리어 효과까지 볼 수 있다. 또한 ‘퍼피컵’을 휴대할 때 너무 발랄하게 튀지 않으면서도 패셔너블하게 휴대할 수 있다는 것이 최 대표의 설명이다.

최 대표는 "사람과 반려견이 함께 산책 할 때 필요한 물컵을 만들고 싶었다."라며 "시중 다수의 반려견 물컵은 반려견 사용성에만 중심을 맞췄기 때문에 관리하고 사용하는 반려인을 고려하지 못하고 있다고 생각했다. 이에 반려인이 휴대하기 편하면서 세척과 관리가 간편한 산책 물컵을 만들게 됐다."고 설명했다.

# 반려견은 물론 사용자 편의성까지 고려
고니 제품의 차별점이자 경쟁력은 반려견은 물론 반려견 용품을 관리하는 사용자의 편의성까지 고려됐다는 것이다. 실제 시중 다수 반려견 산책 물컵들은 물통의 분리되는 면이 많고 복잡한 구조다. 또한 용기 입구가 좁아 세척시 손으로 닦을 수 없는 것이 다수다. 하지만 ‘퍼피컵’은 손가락이 닿기 쉬운 깊이와 넓이로 디자인되어 흐르는 물에 씻어 건조시키면 된다.

최 대표는 "‘퍼피컵’은 스크류 결착이 아닌 연질의 성질을 이용해 튼튼하게 잡아주기 때문에 대부분 국가의 모든 페트병에 꽂아 휴대할 수 있다."라며 "사용자는 어린이가 아니라 대부분 성인 여성과 남성이기 때문에 패션 아이템으로서의 디자인과 색상을 접목하고 있다."고 강조했다.

# 사업 성과 탄력, 페트몽 브랜드 파워 구축할 것
고니는 2019년 다수의 사업적 성과를 이뤄내며 기업 성장의 발판을 다지고 있다. 고니는 올해에만 ▲세계여성발명대회 금상 ▲서울어워드 선정▲타이완 발명 엑스포 동상 수상을 연이어 이뤄냈다. 또한 크라우드 펀딩 와디즈에서도 지속적인 성과를 내며 제품 사업성을 인정 받고 있다.

최 대표는 "지난 6월에 출시 한 만큼 올해는 더 많은 고객들이 페트몽 ’퍼피컵’을 찾아볼 수 있도록 유통채널 확대, 홍보에 중점을 두고 있다. 내년에는 ‘퍼피컵’의 새로운 디자인과 사람과 반려견이 조화로운 삶을 만들어줄 새로운 펫용품 출시를 목표로 하고 있다."라며 "앞으로 페트몽 ‘퍼피컵’이아닌 다른 펫용품도 패셔너블하게 출시 하면서 페트몽의 브랜드 파워를 구축해 나가겠다."고 밝혔다.

The main character is GONE, which was founded by CEO Choi in 2016 with the goal of designing and introducing products for dogs.

The pet lifestyle brand "PETMONT," which is operated by GONEE, is called "Puppy Cup," a dog walk water cup. This product has straps that can be carried in all pet bottles on the market and only cups can be carried separately. Its characteristic is that foreign substances are washed away under running water by applying silicon material and that it is easy to clean as it is designed with a simple design. There are two designs of French bulldogs and Siberian husky, and the interior effects of the house can be seen with luxurious sculptural feel. Choi also explains that when carrying a "puppy cup," it can be carried with a fashionable touch without splashing too much.

"I wanted to make a cup of water for people and their dogs to take a walk together," Choi said. "I thought that since many dogs in the market focused only on the usability of dogs, I was unable to consider the partners who manage and use them. This makes it easier for my companion to carry, and it makes it easier to clean and manage," he explained.

They say that not only dogs but also the convenience of users who manage their dog's products has been considered as a differentiating and competitive In fact, many dog-walking water cups in the market have many separate sides and complex structures. The courage of its small opening, polished by hand washing is no majority. However, the "puppy cup" is designed to be finger-contactable depth and width, and can be washed and dried under running water.

"The 'puppy cup' uses soft properties rather than screws to hold it tightly, so it can be carried in all pet bottles in most countries," Choi said. "We are combining design and color as a fashion item because users are mostly adult women and men, not children."

GONEE has achieved a number of business results in 2019, paving the way for corporate growth. This year alone, he won the Gold Prize at the World Women's Inventions Competition, the Seoul Awards, and the Statue of the Inventions Expo in Thailand. It is also recognized for its product business by continuously performing in the crowdfunding Wadiz.

"Since it was released in June, we are focusing on expanding distribution channels and promoting our products so that more customers can find 'Puppy Cup'. Next year, we aim to launch a new design for the Cup and a new pet product that will create a harmonious life for people and dogs," he said.
