[편집자주]서울시의 산업진흥 및 중소기업 육성 정책의 효율적인 추진을 위해 설립된 서울산업진흥원(SBA)의 다양한 지원사업들이 관내 중소 스타트업들의 인큐베이팅 역할을 톡톡히 하며 주목받고 있다. 좋은 일자리 창출을 핵심 목표로 창업, 유통, 교육, 콘텐츠, 특허, R&D 등 다양한 서비스를 제공하고 있는 서울산업진흥원의 지원사업들은 중소 스타트업들이 '강소기업'으로 도약할 수 있는 밑거름이 되고 있다는 평가를 받고 있다. 이에 서울산업진흥원(SBA)과 디지털 경제신문 ‘비즈니스리포트’는 SBA의 지원사업 수혜를 통해서 성공한 많은 중소 스타트업들의 성공스토리를 기획특집기사로 연재한다.
저가 위주의 중국산 소비재가 한국은 물론 전세계 시장을 휩쓸고 있는 상황에서도 막강한 품질과 제조기술을 바탕으로 대한민국의 공산품들은 여전히 차별화된 경쟁력을 유지하고 있다. 특히 섬유제품 분야에서는 더욱 그렇다. 이정웅 대표가 지난 2017년 설립한 국제섬유는 이같은 한국의 선도적인 제조기술력을 토대로 길리슈트(GHILLIE SUIT)(저격수위장복) 및 위장막, 화기용위장포 등의 섬유 군수품 제조 전문 기업이다.

이 대표는 "기존 제품은 나뭇잎 외에, 대부분 그물을 이용하거나, 천을 이용해 접착제로 부착하는 방식으로 제조 과정이 번거롭고, 접착 부위가 떨어져 위장효과가 떨어지는 등의 문제점이 있다. 또한 메쉬 원단에 다수의 실을 재봉함으로써 사용 시 외부의 마찰이나 실을 잡아당기는 인위적인 힘에 의해 다수의 실이 원단으로부터 쉽게 분리되어 위장 효과가 현저히 감소된다."고 지적하며 "하지만 저희 제품은 특허기술로 이 같은 문제점을 완전히 해결했다."고 설명했다.
# 2019 서울우수상품 선정, 자동화 기계 제작 시스템 구축

이 대표는 "국제섬유는 군수품 제조 전문 기업으로 길리 슈트(저격수위장복) 및 위장막, 화기용위장포, 베일, 모자 등을 자동화 기계로 편직하여 하루에 제품까지 완성할 수 있는 기술력을 갖춘 우수 기업이다."라며 "특허에 대한 사업화 뿐만 아니라 구조 및 디자인을 다양하게 구성해 그 적용 범위를 대폭 확대할 수 있도록 하겠다."라고 말했다. 이어 "일자리 창출 또는 기부(재능) 등을 통해 수익을 환원하는 등 적극적으로 사회 공헌에 참여할 계획이다."라고 포부를 밝혔다.
