삼성전자가 글로벌 5G 시장 공략에 나선다. 미국이 첫번째 공략 대상이다.

미국은 세계적으로 가장 큰 5G 시장이 형성된 곳이다. 삼성전자는 5G 관련 특화 기술을 보유하고 있는 현지 업체를 인수, 현지 시장 공략을 본격화할 계획이다.

삼성전자는 미국 5G·4G LTE 망설계·최적화 전문기업 텔레월드 솔루션즈(TeleWorld Solutions)와 인수계약을 체결했다고 14일 밝혔다. 정확한 인수금액은 밝히지 않았다. 다만 인수 완료 이후 텔레월드 솔루션즈 현재 경영진이 사업을 운영하도록 한다는 방침이다. 빠르게 변화하는 미국 이동통신시장에 유연하게 대응할 수 있는 사업구조를 유지하기 위한 일환이다.
2002년 설립된 텔레월드 솔루션즈는 미국 대형 이동통신사업자, 케이블 방송사 등에 망설계·최적화·필드테스트 등 전문인력을 통해 차별화된 서비스를 제공중이다.
특히 대량의 필드데이터 기반 네트워크 검증분석 자동화 기술을 자체적으로 개발하여 실내외 기지국 최적 위치 선정, 무선신호 간섭원 추출, 기지국 셀(Cell) 설계 등에 소요되는 시간을 기존 대비 50%에서 최대 90%까지 절감해준다.

5G 상용화가 본격화되면서 600~800MHz 저대역, 2.5~4.9GHz 중대역, 24~39GHz 초고주파수대역 등 이동통신에 활용되는 주파수와 기지국이 다양해지고, 망구조가 복잡해짐에 따라 효율적인 망설계·최적화 기술이 5G 커버리지 확보의 핵심 역량으로 대두되고 있다.

삼성전자는 현재 미국 버라이즌, AT&T, 스프린트 등에 5G·4G 통신장비를 공급하고 있다. 

셜빈 제라미 텔레월드 솔루션즈 CEO는 "5G 상용화가 확대되면서 통신 시스템의 성능뿐만 아니라 네트워크 망설계, 구축, 최적화 역량이 갈수록 중요해지고 있다."라며, "북미 이동통신시장에서 빠르게 성장하고 있는 삼성전자의 일원이 되어 매우 기쁘며, 텔레월드 솔루션의 전문인력과 차별화된 서비스 노하우로 삼성전자가 북미 시장에서 입지를 더욱 견고히 하는데 기여하겠다"고 밝혔다.

[INVEST] Samsung Electronics acquires Teleworld Solutions from U.S.Global 5G market is on full-scale.

Samsung Electronics is going to target global 5G markets. The United States is the first target.


The U.S. is where the largest 5G market in the world is formed. Samsung Electronics is planning to take over local businesses that have specialized technologies related to 5G and go after markets there.



Samsung Electronics made an announcement on the 14th that it has signed a contract with TeleWorld Solutions, which specializes in network design and optimization of 5G and 4G LTE network in the U.S. It did not disclose the exact amount of the acquisition. However it is planning to have its current management run its business after completion of the acquisition. It is part of its plan to maintain a business structure that can flexibly respond to the fast-changing U.S. mobile communications market.
Founded in 2002, Teleworld Solutions is providing differentiated services to large U.S. mobile network operators and cable broadcasters through specialized personnel such as network design, optimization and field testing.
In particular, by developing its own technologies for automated verification and analysis of large field data-based networks, it reduces time spent on selecting optimal locations for indoor and outdoor base stations, extracting sources of interference for radio signals, and designing base station cells (cells) from 50% to up to 90%.



As 5G commercialization starts, efficient network design and optimization technologies are emerging as core capabilities to secure 5G coverage as frequencies and base stations used for mobile telecommunication such as 600 to 800MHz low bandwidth, 2.5 to 4.9GHz medium and 24 to 39GHz ultra-high frequency bandwidth become diverse and network structures become more complex.



"Samsung Electronics is supplying 5G and 4G telecommunication equipment to Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and others in recognition of its technology and business capabilities in the U.S., which is a leading mobile communication market," said Jeon Kyung-hoon, vice president of network business. "Samsung Electronics, which is leading the world’s 5G market, will further expand its presence in North America and other markets by 2020 based on its expertise."



Samsung Electronics is currently supplying 5G and 4G telecommunication equipment to Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint in the U.S.



"With the expansion of 5G commercialization, not only the performance of communication systems, but also the ability to design, build and optimize network networks is becoming increasingly important," said CEO of Teleworld Solutions.
