[INVEST] DGB Financial Group to Start Targeting Overseas Markets and Acquiring Cambodia Small Loans Specialized Institutions

DGB Financial Group is set to tap Cambodia’s financial market. The move comes as part of efforts to create a new revenue base by making inroads into the highly growth Southeast Asian financial market.
According to the financial industry on the 14th, DGB Financial Group acquired a 100 percent stake in a Cambodian micro-loan company through its subsidiary DGB Capital on the 11th and launched a local corporation.
Since signing a stock trading contract in July last year, DGB Capital has completed all administrative procedures related to licensing at home and abroad and entered Cambodia on Jan. 30 in the form of a takeover of a small loan company.

Following the Laotian leasing in 2016, the company entered Cambodia’s MFI (small loan business), which is aimed at developing DGB Financial Group’s overseas markets centered on the New Southern States. Kim Tae-oh, chairman of DGB Financial Group, said in his New Year's address that he would spend Vietnam and Cambodia on the East Asian market.

DGB Capital's acquisition is a local company that has been running a small mortgage-oriented business in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, since 2015. Ross Theirith, who was appointed as the head of the corporation, is the first local corporate head of a Korean-American financial institution and will lead DGB Capital's foray into the Cambodian market.

Los Thierrit is considered the right person to efficiently pursue sales and digital business specialized in Cambodia by promoting excellent performance while serving as head of DGBSB's OLP and BKK branches. DGB Capital plans to expand its offline business in the future, focusing on Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.

"DGB Financial Group, which was incorporated as a grandson in 2018, recorded 11.4 billion won in net profit last year and is focusing on localization and global digital businesses by signing MOUs with Cambodian fintech companies," DGB Financial Group said. "In terms of localization, we will grow soundly along with the Laotian corporation."

In Cambodia, the market is known to be low in the risk of insolvency of small loans and a high profit margin.
"The acquisition of Cambodia’s MFI is geared to the strategic direction of the group’s global strategy of ‘Glocalization + Digital Transformation’, which we plan to cover the entire local loan industry with the DGB SB in Cambodia and use as a test base for future digital business in Southeast Asia," said Kim Tae-oh, chairman of DGB Financial Group.
