코스콤이 HSBC 펀드서비스를 인수한다. 자산운용업계 기술기업으로 도약하기 위한 전략적 선택이다.
코스콤은 26일 HSBC(UK)가 보유하고 있는 HSBC 펀드서비스의 지분 전량을 인수하는 방식으로 자산운용 IT업계에 진출한다고 26일 밝혔다.

인수하는 HSBC 펀드서비스는 자산운용사의 회계처리를 대행하고, 펀드기준가 산출과 컴플라이언스 업무 등 자산운용사들의 백오피스 및 IT업무서비스를 지원하는 일반사무관리 회사다. 정확한 인수자금은 밝히지 않았지만 기존 분당센터를 매각해 확보한 자금이 투입될 것으로 알려졌다.

코스콤이 자산운용IT 업계에 진출하려는 배경에는 인구고령화·저금리 등으로 인해 자산관리 분야의 중요성이 강조되고 있다는 점이 자리잡고 있다.

최근 국내 자산운용 규모는 17년말 1096조원에서 19년말 1263조원으로 167조원(15.2%) 증가했다. 시장 확대에 따라 일반 사무관리업무를 비롯한 자산운용 IT서비스도 수요가 늘어나고 있는 추세다.

HSBC펀드는 자산운용IT에 대한 이해도가 높고, 아시아 전문지인 'The Asset'으로부터 2015년부터 5년 연속 베스트 펀드서비스사로 수상을 하는 등 해당 분야의 경쟁력을 갖추고 있다. 코스콤은 HSBC펀드 인수를 바탕으로 자산운용 IT업계 내 경쟁력을 확대해 나간다는 방침이다. 

코스콤은 인수 후 글로벌 경쟁력이 높은 자산관리 선진국의 우수한 IT서비스를 국내에 도입하여 우리나라 자산운용서비스 수준을 높일 예정이다. 증권시장과 자산운용시장을 접목한 융복합 서비스를 발굴하는 등 시너지 효과를 기대하고 있다.

무엇보다 웰스 테크 플랫폼 기업으로 성장도 목표로 내세우고 있다. 웰스테크 플랫폼이란 고객사들이 자산관리 서비스를 잘 할 수 있도록 AI와 빅데이터, 오픈API 등을 활용해 데이터와 IT인프라 등을 제공하는 자산관리 토털 플랫폼을 의미한다.

코스콤은 선진국 자산관리 IT서비스에서 볼 수 있는 실시간 자산관리 시스템을 도입하고 로보 어드바이저 등을 활용한 포트폴리오 구성도 가능하게 해 글로벌 수준의 서비스를 제공할 예정이다.

정지석 코스콤 사장은 "인수 후 대규모 투자를 통해 데이터 비즈니스에 최적화된 자산운용IT 분야 게임체인저로 성장시킬 예정"이라며 "이 과정에서 금융IT분야 일자리를 늘리고 새로운 시장을 만들어 낼 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다"고 말했다.

Koscom is taking over HSBC Fund Services. It is a strategic choice to become a technology company in the asset management industry.
Koscom announced on the 26th that it will enter the asset management IT industry by acquiring the entire stake of HSBC Fund Services, which is owned by HSBC, on the 26th.



HSBC Fund Services, which is taking over, is a general office management company that acts on behalf of asset management companies and supports back office and IT service of asset management companies such as calculating fund standard prices and compliance tasks. Although it did not reveal the exact amount of funds for the acquisition, it is reported that funds secured by selling the existing Bundang Center will be injected.



The reason why Koscom is trying to enter the asset management IT industry is that the importance of asset management is being emphasized due to aging population and low interest rates.



Recently, the amount of asset management in Korea increased by 167 trillion won (15.2 percent) from 1,096 trillion won at the end of 2017 to 1,263 trillion won at the end of 2019. As the market expands, demand for asset management IT services, including general office management, is also increasing.



HSBC Fund has a high understanding of asset management IT and has a competitive edge in the field, winning the award as the best fund service company for five consecutive years from 2015 from The Asset, an Asian magazine. Koscom is planning to expand its competitiveness in asset management and IT industries based on the acquisition of HSBC funds.


After the acquisition, Koscom will introduce excellent IT services from advanced countries in asset management, which have high global competitiveness, in Korea to raise the level of asset management services in Korea. It expects synergy effects by discovering convergence services that combine the stock market and asset management market.



Above all, it is also aiming to grow into a Wells Tech platform company. Well-Stake platform refers to an asset management total platform that provides data and IT infrastructure by utilizing AI, big data, and open API so that customers can perform asset management services well.



Koscom will introduce a real-time asset management system, which can be seen in asset management IT services in advanced countries, and will also be able to form a portfolio using robo advisors to provide global-level services.



"We are planning to grow into an asset management IT game changer optimized for the data business through large-scale investment after acquisition," said CEO Jung Ji-seok of Koscom. "We will do our best to increase jobs in the financial IT sector and create new markets in the process."
