한글과컴퓨터그룹(한컴)이 우주·드론 전문기업 ‘인스페이스’를 인수한다고 9일 밝혔다. 드론 활용 서비스 시장 및 항공우주 분야로 사업영역을 확대하기 위한 일환에서다.

인스페이스는 한국항공우주연구원 출신의 최명진 대표가 2012년 설립한 기업으로, 항공우주 위성 지상국 분야 기술 1위 기업이다. 위성 지상국 구축 및 운영, 인공지능 기반의 위성/드론 영상 분석의 기술 경쟁력을 갖췄다.

특히 지난해부터는 드론 자동 이·착륙, 무선충전, 다중운영, 통신 데이터 수집·관제·분석 등 기술을 통합한 무인 자동화 시스템 ‘드론셋’을 개발해 드론 소프트웨어(SW)까지 사업영역도 확대했다. 드론셋은 인공지능(AI) 기술을 접목한 객체 탐지·분류·판독 모듈을 포함하고 있어, 각종 사고와 재난 감지, 교통량·범죄 감지, 환경감시, 농업·건설·산업 분야 현장 관제 등 실제 적용 가능한 분야가 기대를 받고 있는 분야다.

한컴그룹은 ‘인스페이스’의 드론셋 기술을 기반으로 한컴그룹이 보유하고 있는 IoT, 자율주행, 블록체인 등 다양한 요소기술들을 융합하여 ‘지능형 드론 서비스 플랫폼’을 구축하고, 지능형 드론 서비스 플랫폼을 통해서 지자체 및 정부의 스마트시티 구현에 기여하겠다는 비전도 함께 제시했다.

이를 위해 ‘인스페이스‘가 국토교통부 스마트시티 챌린지 사업을 통해 개발한 무인드론안전망 기술(사고현장 영상을 드론이 자동 촬영해 119상황실과 소방현장에 제공)을 한컴라이프케어가 개발 중인 소방안전플랫폼과 연계함으로써, 보다 다양한 공간정보를 확보함과 동시에 정보공유 대상도 지자체와 관련 공공기관으로 확대해 나갈 계획이다.

특히 한컴아카데미가 추진 중인 드론 임무교육 사업, 한컴MDS의 드론 충전 및 드론 로드 사업, 한컴인텔리전스의 드론 인증 사업과도 연계, 드론 규제 샌드박스에도 적극적으로 참여하는 등 드론 서비스 상용화를 위한 전방위적 체계 구축에 나선다.

한컴그룹은 드론 분야 외에도 달탐사 지상국 개발을 추진 중인 인스페이스의 기술력을 기반으로 위성 활용 서비스 분야로도 협력을 점차 확대해나갈 계획이다.

한컴은 “전 세계적으로 드론 산업은 기체 중심에서 활용서비스 중심으로 급격하게 이동하고 있다”며, “국내 드론 시장도 드론 활용 서비스 육성에 초점을 두고 다양한 사업들이 추진되고 있는 만큼, 인스페이스의 항공드론 관련 SW 기술들과 한컴그룹이 보유한 다양한 분야의 기술, 사업경험, 네트워크, 브랜드파워 등과 결합된다면 충분히 국내 드론 시장을 선도할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

한편 한컴은 지난 2월 세계 1위 드론 기업인 DJI와 업무협약을 체결하고, 국내외 드론 기업들과의 협력 체계 구축을 통한 드론 교육 사업을 추진중이다.

[M&A] Hancom, Inspace Acquisition..."Building an Intelligent Drone Service Platform"

Hancom announced on the 9th that it will acquire 'Inspace', which specializes in space and drones. This is part of its plan to expand its business to markets for drone-utilized services.



Inspace was founded in 2012 by Choi Myung-jin, a former CEO of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, and is the No. 1 company in aerospace, satellite and ground station technology. It has competitive edge in establishing and operating satellite ground stations and analyzing satellite/drone images based on artificial intelligence.


In particular, since last year, it has developed 'Drone Set', an unmanned automation system that integrates technologies such as automatic take-off and landing of drones, wireless charging, multi-operation, communication data collection, control, and analysis, and expanded its business area to include drone software (SW). Drone sets include object detection, classification, and reading modules that incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and are expected to be applied in actual areas such as accident and disaster detection, traffic and crime detection, environmental monitoring, and on-site control in agriculture, construction and industry.



Based on the drone set technology of "Inspace," Hancom Group also presented its vision to build an "intelligent drone service platform" by combining various elemental technologies such as IoT, autonomous driving, and block chain that Hancom Group possesses, and to contribute to the implementation of smart cities by local governments and governments through intelligent drone service platforms.



To this end, "Inspace" plans to link unmanned drone safety network technology (the drone automatically takes video of the accident site and provides it to the 119 situation room and fire site) developed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport through the Smart City Challenge project with the Fire Safety Platform under development by Hancom Life Care to secure more space information and expand the scope of information sharing to local governments and related public organizations.



In particular, Hancom Academy will establish an all-round system for commercializing drone services by linking Hancom MDS's drone charging and drone loading business, Hancom Intelligence's drone certification business, and actively participating in drone-regulated sandboxes.



In addition to the drone sector, Hancom Group is planning to gradually expand its cooperation to the satellite service sector based on the technology of InSpace, which is currently developing a ground station for lunar exploration.



Hancom said, "The drone industry worldwide is rapidly shifting from gas-focused to utilization services," adding, "As South Korea's drone market is also focusing on fostering drone utilization services, we expect that it will be able to lead the domestic drone market sufficiently if it combines various technologies, business experiences, networks, and brand power related to Hancom Group with SW technologies related to InSpace."
