넷마블이 미국 게임개발사 쿵푸 팩토리(Kung Fu Factory)의 최대 지분을 인수했다고 22일 밝혔다. 인수 주체는 넷마블 북미법인이며, 쿵푸 팩토리는 넷마블 북미법인의 자회사로 편입된다.

쿵푸 팩토리는 지난 2002년 미국 로스앤젤레스에 설립된 인디 게임 개발사로, 모바일 게임 'WWE 챔피언스(WWE Champions)' 등을 개발한 곳이다. 현재 NBA IP를 활용한 넷마블 북미법인의 첫 자체 퍼블리싱 게임 'NBA 볼 스타즈(NBA Ball Stars)'를 개발 중이다.

넷마블은 지난해 4분기 실적 발표를 통해 'NBA 볼 스타즈'가 올해 1분기 글로벌 출시될 것이라고 밝힌 바 있다.
심철민 넷마블 북미법인장은 "실력 있는 개발사 쿵푸 팩토리를 넷마블 북미법인의 일원으로 맞이하게 되어 기쁘게 생각한다"며 "지분 인수와 같은 적극적인 투자로 북미에서 넷마블의 퍼블리싱 능력이 강화될 것으로 기대한다"고 전했다.

쿵푸 팩토리 설립자이자 CEO인 리치 루카비나(Ricci Rukavina)는 "많은 이용자들에게 사랑받고 있는 모바일 게임 회사 넷마블과 함께 하게 되어 기쁘다"며 "NBA 볼 스타즈를 시작으로 앞으로 양사가 다양한 게임 개발을 함께 할 것"이라고 밝혔다.

[M&A] Netmarble Acquires U.S. Kung Fu Factory Shares

Netmarble announced on the 22nd that it has acquired the largest stake in U.S. game developer Kung Fu Factory. The acquisition entity is Netmarble's North American subsidiary, and Kung Fu Factory is a subsidiary of Netmarble's North American subsidiary.



Kung Fu Factory is an indie game developer established in Los Angeles, the U.S. in 2002 and developed the mobile game "WWE Champions." Currently, it is developing its first self-publishing game called "NBA Ball Stars" by Netmarble North American corporation using NBA IP.



Netmarble announced its fourth-quarter earnings last year that "NBA Ball Stars" will be released globally in the first quarter of this year.
Shim Chul-min, head of Netmarble's North American subsidiary, said, "We are pleased to welcome talented developer Kung Fu Factory as a member of Netmarble's North American subsidiary. We expect Netmarble's publishing ability to be strengthened in North America by active investments such as acquiring stakes."



"We are happy to be with Netmarble, a mobile game company loved by many users," said Ricci Rukavina, founder and CEO of Kung Fu Factory. "Starting with NBA Ball Stars, we will work together to develop various games."
