현대건설이 중동 지역 카타르에서 루사일 프라자 타워 PLOT4 공사를 수주하며 올해 새해 첫 날 해외수주 포문을 힘차게 열었다.
현대건설은 2일 카타르 부동산 개발회사(Lusail real-estate Development Company)에서 발주한 총 약 6,130억원 규모의 루사일 프라자 타워 PLOT4 공사 낙찰통지서(LOA : Letter of Award)를 접수했다.
금번 수주는 지난 12월 동남아에서의 연이은 수주에 이은 새해 첫 수주 쾌거로 현대건설의 우수한 기술력과 성공적인 시공 능력으로 올해 성공적 도약을 위한 힘찬 발판을 마련했다는데 의미가 깊다.
현대건설이 단독으로 수주한 카타르 루사일 프라자 타워 PLOT4공사는 카타르 루사일 시티 금융지역 일대(Lusail City Financial District)에 지하 5층에서 지상 70층 오피스 빌딩을 건설하는 프로젝트다. 공사기간은 착공 후 34개월로 2022년 10월 말 준공을 목표로 한다.
금번 수주는 현대건설이 전통적 수주 텃밭인 중동 지역 내 카타르에서 지속적으로 축적해온 풍부한 공사수행 경험과 우수한 기술력을 바탕으로 한 발주처로부터의 신뢰로 이뤄진 수주 결실이다.
한편, 현대건설은 1979년 카타르 도하호텔 및 회의센터 공사로 카타르에 첫 진출한 이후 라스라판 C IWPP 프로젝트, QAFCO 비료공장 5~6단계 공사, 하마드 메디컬 시티 2단계 공사, 루사일 고속도로 공사 등 총 22건, 94억달러 규모의 프로젝트를 수주했다.
현재 카타르 알 마하 유아청소년 의료센터, 카타르 알부스탄 도로공사 등 총 4개 현장, 20억 달러 규모의 공사를 수행하고 있다.
현대건설 관계자는 “작년 카타르 지역에 국립박물관, 루사일 고속도로 등 지역을 대표하는 랜드마크의 성공적 준공으로 현대건설은 카타르 현지에서 깊은 신뢰를 얻으며 명성을 공고히 하고 있다”며 “향후에도 현대건설의 풍부한 수행경험과 기술 노하우를 바탕으로 한 해외 공사 수주로 국내 건설업계를 이끌며 글로벌 탑티어(Top-Tier) 위상을 제고해 나갈 것이다”고 밝혔다.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction won a contract to build the Lusail Plaza Tower PLOT4 in Qatar in the Middle East, strongly opening up its overseas orders on the first day of the new year this year.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction received a winning notice (LOA) for construction of the Rusil Plaza Tower PLOT4 worth a total of 613 billion won from the Qatar Real-state Development Company on Tuesday.
This is the first winning new year's order following a series of orders in Southeast Asia in December, and it is meaningful that Hyundai Engineering & Construction's excellent technology and successful construction have set the stage for its successful leap forward this year.
The construction of the Rusa Tower PLOT4 in Qatar, which Hyundai Engineering and Construction won alone, is a project to build a 70-story office building on the fifth basement floor in the Lusail City Financial District in Qatar. The construction period is 34 months after the start of construction and aims to be completed at the end of October 2022.
The latest order is the result of Hyundai Engineering & Construction's abundant experience in carrying out construction work in Qatar, a traditional stronghold of orders, and trust from owners based on excellent technology.
Meanwhile, Hyundai E&C has won 22 projects worth $9.4 billion, including the Raspan C IWPP project, the QAFCO fertilizer plant, the second stage construction of Hamad Medical City, and the Rusail highway construction since it first entered Qatar in 1979 under construction of the Doha Hotel and conference center in 1979.
It is currently carrying out four sites, including Qatar's Al Maha Children's Medical Center and Qatar's Albustan Road Corp., with a total of $2 billion worth of the project.
"With the successful completion of the landmarks representing the National Museum and Rusail Highway in Qatar last year, Hyundai E&C has gained deep trust in Qatar and consolidated its reputation," a Hyundai Engineering and Construction official said. "We will continue to lead the Korean construction industry by winning overseas construction orders based on Hyundai E&C's rich performance experience and technological know-how in the future."
