수출 애로요인...'바이어의 가격인하 요구' '원재료 가격상승' '수출대상국 경기부진'
지난해까지 지속된 수출경기 하락세가 올해 1분기에는 개선될 것이란 전망이다.
한국무역협회 국제무역연구원(원장 신승관)이 국내 984개 수출기업을 대상으로 실시한 ‘2020년 1/4분기 수출산업경기전망조사’에 따르면 올해 1분기 수출산업경기전망지수(EBSI)는 102.2로 2018년 4분기 이후 5분기 만에 100을 돌파했다. 지수가 100을 상회하면 향후 수출여건이 지금보다 개선될 것으로 본다는 뜻이다.
품목별로는 선박, 반도체, 생활용품 등의 수출이 개선될 전망이다. 반도체는 단가 회복 전망이 우세한 가운데 5세대 이동통신(5G) 시장의 확대, 주요 IT기업의 데이터센터 투자수요 회복 등으로 수출경기가 살아날 것으로 예상했다. 선박도 올해 1분기에 인도 물량이 증가하면서 수출이 늘어날 것으로 보여 지수가 4분기의 94.9에서 149.4로 크게 개선됐다.
반면 화학공업, 기계류, 철강 등은 수출 부진이 지속될 것으로 보인다. 화학공업 제품은 유가 하락과 중국 수요 부진 등으로 감소하고 기계류는 중국·베트남 등 주요 수출국의 경기 둔화, 철강 및 비철금속 제품은 글로벌 수요 정체에 주요국의 생산 확대가 겹쳐 수출여건 악화가 예상된다.
항목별로는 ‘수출상담’(105.1), ‘수출계약’(102.3) 등이 4분기 대비 소폭 개선돼 수출물량의 견조세를 기대하게 했다. 다만 ‘수출상품 제조원가’(85.9), ‘수출국 경기’(87.4), ‘수출채산성’(89.3) 등은 세계 경기 회복 지연, 바이어의 가격 인하 요구, 원재료 가격 상승 등으로 부정적인 여건이 지속될 것으로 전망했다.
수출기업들은 올해 1분기 주요 수출 애로요인으로 ‘바이어의 가격인하 요구’(15.5%), ‘원재료 가격상승’(15.3%), ‘수출대상국의 경기부진’(13.3%) 등을 꼽았다.
무역협회 국제무역연구원 유서경 연구원은 “2018년 4분기 이후 5분기 만에 지수가 100을 넘긴 것은 수출 회복의 신호”라며 “다만 미중 무역협상 등 대외 리스크 요인이 여전하므로 지속적인 모니터링과 대응이 필요하다”고 평가했다.

The downward trend in the export market, which continued until last year, is expected to improve in the first quarter of this year.
According to the Korea International Trade Association’s "Export Industry Forecast Survey for the first quarter of 2020" conducted on 984 Korean exporters, the export industry outlook index stood at 102.2 for the first quarter of this year, surpassing 100 for the first five quarters since the fourth quarter of 2018. A reading above 100 means that the index expects export conditions to improve in the future from now.
By item, exports of ships, semiconductors and household goods are expected to improve. Semiconductor predicted that export business will pick up due to expansion of 5G market and recovery of major IT companies’ demands for investment in data centers amid prevailing prospects for unit price recovery. Shipyards are also expected to see their exports rise in the first quarter of this year due to a rise in Indian shipments, with the index sharply improving to 149.4 from 94.9 in the fourth quarter.
On the other hand, the chemical industry, machinery and steel industries are expected to continue their sluggish exports. Chemical industry products are expected to decline due to falling oil prices and sluggish demand in China, while machinery is expected to slow down in major exporters such as China and Vietnam, and steel and nonferrous metal products are expected to suffer from worsening export conditions due to a slowdown in global demand.
By category, export consultation (105.1) and export contract (102.3) have improved slightly compared to the fourth quarter, prompting the government to expect a solid tax on export volume. However, the Export Commodities Cost (85.9), the Export-Import Business (87.4), and the Export-Importability (89.3) forecast that negative conditions will continue due to the delayed recovery of the global economy, demands by buyers to cut prices, and rising raw material prices.
Exporting companies cited the demand for lower prices of bires (15.5 percent), higher prices of raw materials (15.3 percent), and the economic slowdown of export destinations (13.3 percent) as major export factors in the first quarter of this year.
Yoo Seo-kyung, a researcher at the Korea International Trade Institute at the Korea International Trade Association, said, "The index's reading of 100 for the first time since the fourth quarter of 2018 is a sign of a recovery in exports," adding, "Since external risk factors such as the U.S.-China trade negotiations still exist, we need to continuously monitor and respond."
