스토리지기업 퓨어스토리지가 데이터 플랫폼 기업 '포트웍스'를 인수한다고 21일 밝혔다. 포트웍스의 인수금액은 3억7000만 달러(한화 4300억원 가량)로 퓨어스토리지 사상 최대 규모의 인수계약이다.
퓨어스토리지는 포트웍스 인수를 바탕으로 고객의 데이터 경험을 확대, 빠르게 성장하고 있는 멀티 클라우드 데이터 서비스 시장에서의 서비스 경쟁력을 강화한다는 계획이다.
포트웍스는 까르푸, 컴캐스트, GE디지털, 크로거, 루프트한자 및 T모바일을 비롯한 전세계 주요 기업에 쿠버네티스 기반 데이터 서비스 플랫폼을 제공하는 회사다.
퓨어스토리지는 포트웍스 인수를 바탕으로 멀티 클라우드 데이터 서비스 시장에 확장 진출해 쿠버네티스와 컨테이너를 지원한다는 계획이다.
특히 퓨어스토리지 데이터 플랫폼과 퓨어 서비스 오케스트레이터 소프트웨어를 포트웍스 컨테이너 데이터 서비스와 결합한다. 클라우드, 베어메탈, 또는 대규모 기업 어레이에 구축할 수 있는 쿠버네티스 기반 데이터 서비스를 제공하기 위한 일환에서다.
찰리 잔칼로 퓨어스토리지 회장 겸 CEO는 "포트웍스 기술을 통해 쿠버네티스를 위한 멀티 클라우드 데이터 서비스를 강화할 수 있게 됐다"며 "현대적인 데이터 경험을 확장하고자 하려는 당사의 인수 계획에 중요한 이정표가 될 것"이라고 밝혔다.

Purestorage, a storage company, announced on the 21st that it will acquire 'Port Worx', a data platform company. The acquisition of PortWorks is 370 million U.S. dollars, the largest acquisition deal ever for PureStorage.
Purestorage plans to expand customers' data experience based on the Port Worx acquisition and strengthen their service competitiveness in the fast-growing multi-cloud data service market.
Port Worx is a company that provides a Kuvernetis-based data service platform to major companies around the world, including Carrefour, Comcast, GE Digital, Kroger, Lufthansa and T-Mobile.
Purestorage plans to expand into the multi-cloud data service market based on the Port Worx acquisition to support Covernetis and containers.
In particular, it combines the Purestorage data platform and the Pure Service Orchestra software with Port Worx container data services. The move is part of providing a Kuvernetis-based data service that can be deployed in the cloud, bare metal, or large enterprise arrays.
"Port Worx technology has enabled us to strengthen our multi-cloud data services for Covernetis," said Purestorage Chairman and CEO Charlie Jankalo. "It will be an important milestone in our acquisition plan to expand our modern data experience."
