게임빌이 코인원에 전략적 투자에 나선다고 19일 밝혔다. 코인원은 국내 3대 암호화폐 거래소 중 하나다. 게임빌은 이번 투자로 코인원의 구주 13%를 인수하게 되며, 투자규모는 312억원이다.
게임빌은 사업지주회사로 컴투스 및 계열사를 포함한 전사적인 차원에서 블록체인 기술과 가상자산 플랫폼에 대한 관심도를 높이고, 새로운 사업 기회를 모색하기 위해 투자를 결정했다.
게임 산업과 블록체인 및 가상자산 산업은 지속적으로 접점이 확대되는 추세다. 최근에는 NBA스타 선수들의 실제 경기 장면이 담긴 NFT(대체불가능토큰) 카드를 판매하는 게임 플랫폼이 인기를 얻어 글로벌 게임 시장에서 블록체인 기술의 유효성을 증명하고 있다. NFT를 활용한 ‘메타버스’ 게임 시장으로의 진화 등 블록체인 및 디지털자산과 융합한 더욱 확장된 게임 경제 창출의 기대감이 커지고 있다.

한편 코인원은 화이트 해커 출신 차명훈 대표가 이끄는 가상자산 플랫폼 기업으로, 뛰어난 보안 및 거래엔진 기술력을 바탕으로 가상자산 시장의 활성화와 함께 급격히 성장하고 있다. 디파이(De-Fi)라고 불리는 차세대 금융 프로젝트 등 신사업에도 주력하고 있다.

Gameville is a business holding company and has decided to invest to raise interest in blockchain technology and virtual asset platforms and explore new business opportunities at an enterprise-wide level, including Comtus and its affiliates.
The game industry, blockchain and virtual asset industries are continuously expanding their contacts. Recently, a game platform that sells NFT (nonalternable token) cards containing actual game scenes of NBA star players has gained popularity, proving the validity of blockchain technology in the global game market. Expectations are growing for the creation of a more expanded game economy that combines blockchain and digital assets, such as the evolution of the "metabus" game market using NFT.
Gameville will cooperate extensively with Coinone through strategic investments, including technical cooperation such as large-scale traffic processing technology and hacking response security technology, as well as global expansion of related businesses.
