사우디아라비아왕국 건국 92주년 기념식이 오늘(23일) 오후 서울 중구 신라호텔에서 열렸습니다.

이날 건국기념일 행사에는 사미 알사드한 주한 사우디 대사를 비롯해 각국 대사와 관계자, 정-제계 인사, 그리고 한국정부를 대표해 원희룡 국토교통부 장관 등 500여명이 참석했습니다.

 

 

이날 사미 알사드한 주한 사우디 대사는 기념사를 통해 축하의 뜻을 전했습니다.

“초대국왕이 이룩한 사우디아라비아 왕국 통합을 기념하는 92주년 행사에 오신 것을 환영합니다. 왕국통일이라는 역사적인 일은 선조들의 희생과 유산이며, 후손들이 이를 이어가고 있습니다. 두 성지의 수호자인 살만 빈 압둘아지즈 알 사우드 현 국왕님과 이 자리를 빛내주신 분들과 ‘it is Our Home’이라는 슬로건 아래 뜻깊은 날을 맞은 왕국에 축하의 뜻을 전합니다.”

 

 

또 한국 정부를 대표해 참석한 원희룡 국토교통부 장관도 축사를 했습니다.

“아랍의 격언 중에 ‘가장 좋은 물건은 새것이고 가장 좋은 친구는 오랜 친구다’라는 말이 있습니다. 사우디와 한국이 오랜 시간 쌓아온 두터운 신뢰를 바탕으로 상호협력을 지속해 나가기를 희망합니다”

 

 

지난 18년 동안 한국과 사우디아라비아의 민간교류에 큰 공을 세운 사단법인 한국-사우디친선협회(KSFS) 이종천 회장도 이날 행사에 참석해 앞으로 양국간 보다 적극적인 협력을 통해 공동발전하기를 희망한다고 강조했습니다.

올해는 한국과 사우디아라비아가 수교를 맺은 지 60주년이 되는 뜻 깊은 해 입니다. 올해를 기점으로 한층 발전된 양국이 되기를 기원합니다.

The 92nd anniversary of the founding of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was held at 6:30 p.m. today (23rd) at the Shilla Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.

More than 500 people attended the National Foundation Day event, including Saudi Ambassador Sami M. Al-Sadhan to Korea, ambassadors and officials from each country, political and economic figures, and Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong on behalf of the Korean government.

"Welcome to the 92nd anniversary celebration of Saudi Arabia's kingdom's integration, which was achieved by the first king. This historical event of kingdom unification is the sacrifice and legacy of our ancestors, and it continues by our descendants. Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the guardian of the two holy sites, congratulations to the current king and those who have made this place shine and to the kingdom on a meaningful day under the slogan "it is Our Home."

In addition, Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Won Hee-ryong, who attended on behalf of the Korean government, said,

 

"There is an Arab maxim that 'the best thing is new and the best friend is an old friend.' I hope that Saudi Arabia and Korea will continue to cooperate with each other based on the strong trust they have built for a long time," he congratulated.

 

Lee Jong-cheon, chairman of the Korea-Saudi Friendship Association (KSFS), who has contributed greatly to private exchanges between Korea and Saudi Arabia over the past 18 years, also attended the event and stressed that he hopes to develop jointly through more active cooperation between the two countries.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Saudi Arabia. I hope that the two countries will become more developed starting from this year.
